It was just tonight that I read it, you would think I would be able to remember.  Short term memory syndrome perhaps.

Not that it really matters but I'll have a look and see if I can find it again.

Found it ... definitely ballistics and the author offered him a deal, which rather suggests that you were spot on that there was some monetary advantage for Bamber.
I think if Roger Wilkes says in his book that Bamber ripped the twins' photograph up I think it is obvious from whom he got his information.
Snip
To my tentative first letter, Bamber had replied briskly, pointing out that I was not the first journalist to approach him about his story and asking me not to contact him again unless I was prepared to help. Convicted for the merciless shooting of five members of his family at their farmhouse in Essex in 1985, he wanted to commission a new ballistics report, but had no money to pay for it. Without it there would be no prospect of a full appeal hearing, and no co-operation for me. I offered a deal; he agreed to meet.

Has anyone approached Wilkes direct to find out how much he paid ?

Was he allowed to gain financially given he’s a convicted criminal ?

If one wanted to dispose of such a sweet photo why would one even need to rip it in half?  In this case “someone” looked at it, tore it in half, put the two bits together, tore it in half again, and then again.  That is complete destruction.  How could anyone do that, knowing those two children had recently been murdered and knowing that they had a grieving father who would almost certainly have treasured such a photo?

But why would anyone even want to rip up a sweet photo of children?

If they didn’t want it themselves, they’d have put it in a bundle and given it to Colin.

I’m guessing that Colin sellotaped it together?

I suspect when Jeremy came across it he couldn’t contain his rage and that’s why he ripped it up. There could be several reasons why he did that: it could be they reminded him how he killed them, and he tried to eradicate it all from his mind as he knew it was wrong, despite not having normal feelings.

Or it could be he felt intense jealousy towards them — even in death.

They were the product of Sheila and Colin who both adored the twins. June and Nevill adored them too — and Jeremy’s nose was pushed out of joint by them. To add to his jealousy they were due to inherit a large proportion of the estate, which was a double blow to Jeremy.

To try and understand his psyche, we have to remember that he was given up for adoption at, I believe, about six-months-old. I could be wrong, but if that’s the case, it must dwell on the mind how parents could give you up after six months...

It seems he felt June never loved him, though I think she did in her own way — she couldn’t seem to show her true feelings, by all accounts l He even said June loved Crispy more than him.

So to then discover your biological parent’s had not only given you up for adoption, but had married soon after and had another son and daughter (your full biological siblings) must be a bitter pill to swallow and make you feel unwanted, even though he didn’t know what forced them to adopt him. His biological father father said it was a traumatic time for them, so they didn’t just offload him because they didn’t care — something must have happened that gave them little option.

I’m not under any circumstances looking for a reason why he killed all his family, what he did was evil beyond words regardless of his own issues: no normal feeling man can shoot dead all their family, whatever the reasons behind it — which were in the main pure greed. But the fact is he was devoid of feelings, otherwise he’d never have even considered it — let alone done it.

I’m more curious as to how he was able to kill them all. Even psychopaths seldom kill all their family.

I think that torn photograph of the twins gives yet more insight into Jeremy’s psyche.

If CC had found the photo he would have said so in his book. Jeremy went to the Bambers at six weeks of age, the normal age of adoption. It was Sheila who was older. I think she was three months old. She spent the earliest part of her life in a children's home.

The cops probably found it in the bin.

I would go with that one ... once it was ripped up what else would be done with it but discard it never to see the light of day again.  Obviously someone retrieved it and logically that was most likely to have been the police.
