An alternative consideration could be: a convicted child molester/paraphile, burgling but deciding to take a child instead. In this case, a female child. The BKA’s five charges against CB, involve women only. Ranging from +/- 15 to 70 years old.
The holiday resort and nearby, obviously had a long history of criminality much of which was allowed to run unchecked.

Check out the dates on the following ~
Madeleine McCann police seek intruder who attacked girls at holiday homes
James Meikle
Wed 19 Mar 2014 21.03 GMT
Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann from a Portuguese holiday resort nearly seven years ago say a lone intruder sexually assaulted five girls aged between seven and 10 in the Algarve between 2004 and 2006.
The four incidents – one involving two girls – were among 12 over six years up to 2010 being examined by officers in which a man entered holiday accommodation, mainly villas occupied by British families.

Madeleine: Portuguese police to re-examine burglaries at resort
By FIONA BARTON

Last updated at 11:48 19 August 2007

The under-fire Portuguese police are preparing to take a fresh look at reports of two earlier break-ins in the apartment block where Madeleine McCann and her family stayed.

Both burglaries - one in the apartment directly above the McCann's flat - are understood to have happened two weeks before the family of five arrived at the Mark Warner Ocean Club in Praia da Luz.

One was believed to have been committed by someone with a key to the burgled apartment.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-476064/Madeleine-Portuguese-police-examine-burglaries-resort.html

Serious crimes were being committed.  Yet there seems to have been a dearth of any sort of meaningful search  by the Portuguese police for forensic evidence of any kind. To the extent of allowing Madeleine's bedclothes to be removed by the cleaners.
There is little evidence (if any) that there was any serious thought given to the chance that these offences could have been linked either to the same perpetrator or group until Scotland Yard took over the investigation and began working through the case systematically.

Madeleine McCann Update: British Police Want To Interview Three Alleged Burglars
Jan 13, 2014,

Authorities in the UK are traveling to Portugal this week to interview three men in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The three men Metropolitan Police want to interview committed burglaries at the Portuguese resort the British girl vanished from, according to The Daily Mirror.

Cellphone records also allegedly show the three men made numerous calls to each other in the hours after McCann disappeared.

"Police want to be given a chance to arrest key suspects. It doesn’t prove they have Madeleine but it will rule them in or out of the investigation and that is important," the spokesman said.

This latest development in the case comes three months after authorities announced they were combing through a huge trove of phone records from tourists and residents who were in the Praia da Luz resort on or around May 3, 2007.

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

There's nothing suggesting that the man who was reported as interacting with children and the burglar was the same person, so what he did isn't relevant.

Individuals in a criminal investigation are only deemed "irrelevant" once they have been investigated and ruled out.

We know the police tried to contact Brueckner at the time of Madeleine's disappearance.

Do you know if they were successful in that endeavour?

Or was he added to a similar version of Paiva's later file of all that "wasn't relative to the inquiry"?.

She didn't give him an alibi.

Given the BKA cannot place CB in Luz, why does he need one ?

No evidence if a break in, no forensic evidence, how does the alternative stack up.

No evidence of a break in with the man molesting children in their beds either,  isn't that strange?   Maybe he had a key?

Your wishful thinking is speculation.

You really know nothing about the evidence available to investigators.  So it would be appropriate to post about it when it appears in the public domain should there be a trial.

Just something along the lines of what is happening presently as we await the trial outcome of the five serious charges he faces.

Yet an ex girlfriend supposedly gives an alibi and its bollox .

An ex girlfriend said he broke into her apartment and hid under the bed waiting to see if she brought another man back with her,  she didn't and he left.   another example of him breaking into an apartment,  he was experienced at doing that.

The Portuguese police of the time did not appear to "do" collecting forensic evidence.  Always a good place to start with evidence, one would think.

She says he was hiding while lying in wait for her.  I think that is serious stuff and certainly ties in with other anecdotal evidence in the public domain.

We know the evidence available to investigators isn't sufficient to bring charges against Brueckner anytime in the foreseeable future.
We do know that, well, at least some of us worked that out over 2 years ago. Others, not as sharp.
But hey, in your imagination perhaps, it shouldn't be much longer now.

So why did he pretend to have an alibi?

He doesn't actually need one anyway.
When is that going to sink In?

It seems that Brueckner made an art of thinking up Alibis that he didn't need.

So you think he was only tapping that German sort during that week purely to give himself an alibi?

Using your favourite fallacious arguement, there's nothing to suggest it isn't the same man either :-)
