Even now ... misinformation!

I am almost certain this photo is of the inside tapas bar and restaurant.  Kate and Gerry and co' sat outside on a cool evening at a table much closer to 5A than this inside restaurant  In 2010, we ate in the outside tapas restaurant as did Kate and Gerry.  I do not remember any pillara and walls.

Many of the misleading photographs, elongating and distorting Kate and Gerrys view of 5A, were taken from this inside restaurant.

K & G were considerably closer and no doubt braved the cold in order to be within earshot and easy sight of the children should they appear ... or anyone visit via the patio doors.

Heri, would you be so kind as to confirm that i am correct about this photo being the inside restaurant.  Thanks.

If I am incorrect, I will take this thread down

I doubt there is anything insidious in using that picture. Probably just a picture added in to fill the space from a journalist with little time. It may be a recent picture, the tapas bar doesnt exist anymore, think it is now a pizza restaraunt

Whether it exists or not, it is wrong information.

I think it is laziness rather than deliberate disinformation.

But it cements a myth.  The myth that the Mccanna were further away from 5A than they actually were.

Only a few metres further away though and not cementing any myth at all IMO. Do you seriously think the Mccanns had their eyes on their patio doors for every second and minute of the whole of  the evening? In case their children crawled out their beds and went out there? purleese

And to suggest they were in earshot if the children went out is silly as the noise in the tapas bar would have drowned anything like that

They still left those kiddies on their own no matter if it was 15ft closer than the photo implies! And did you really write Kate and Gerry 'braved the cold'? Funny I thought Maddie disappeared in Portugal in May .... not Finland!

It was quite cold that night Tim.  Jane Tanner was wearing her partners fleece if I remember correctly.  I do have the meteorogical reports for that period, but I have such a massive database, I find it almost impossible to find things these days.

As for 50 metres, Red.  Our back garden was 50 metres long.  We lived on a busy main road ... set back admittedly.  We used to hear our kids plainly if they called, even when a bunch of us were laughing and joking over the bottom fence

If you are a mother you will know that you hear the cry of your own child over everything else.

A packed restauraunt is a bit different, besides, i suppose all the tapas seven braved the cold just for gerry and kate keeping an eye? Their kids couldnt have got out

I think your argument is weak

Why would they/did they leave the back door open in the first place? Whilst others didnt,  has this ever been explained? Do you know? is it worthy of a new thread? i think so

It is recorded as a chilly night where people needed jumpers or jackets. May can be quite cool!

The distance is important because the [ censored word ]s chose to make a big issue of it.

Sorry to de-dramatise matters

But I believe Diane Webster was a smoker???  - Happy to be corrected here

Maybe that's why the group were seated under the plastic awning structure - outside

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

Oh Red.  Why are you so awkward?  Surely it was obvious that by "all keeping an eye on things", I meant their own apartments as well.

Nothing akward in pointing out that there was nothing to see in their own apartments as their shutters were DOWN, ie NOTHING to see

Night-time view from the tapas bar to apartment 5a.

So number 1 is where K&G sat behind the LH screen.  We sat behind the RH screen.

Number 2 is apartment 5a.

That is not a bit how it was when we were there.  We could see much much clearer than that and FGS it was only about 50 metres away, verifyable on GE.  How can distances be so distorted?  That looks like 150 metres!

And, how can lighting be so dulled?  could that be to do with exposure times?

It beggars belief.

Incidentally in the bottom photo the impression is that they sat outside.  I think where number 1 is shown is the correct position of their table, behind the LH plastic sheet.

Registrar, even if Mrs W was a smoker, I doubt that she would have had the ill manners to light up in company, whilst peeps were dining.  And I seriously doubt that a bunch of Doctors would tolerate it

There had been a full moon the previous night.
