And the link to the article in Portuguese.  But that shouldn't be a problem for Anne Guedes.

I didn't miss it, muratfan, death was a side-effect in this case. Please don't make me say what I didn't ! Death wasn't intended.
Ether isn't gas. It has a very short (but radical) effect. I have an idea you could get it at the chemist shop, now probably no more, may be in specialized vet shops.

Wasn't "my" Portuguese dubious yesterday, Eleanor ?
I read the article. No gas.

I didn't say anything about Gas.  It was sedation, which doesn't have to be Gas.

http://www.history.com/topics/ether-and-chloroform

Ether can come as liquid or gas

Dint think it is used any more but as a child I was anesthetized several times using chloroform.  Horrible smell

If Chloroform was used then it could be one of the reasons to account for the window being open.  To rid the place of the smell

Why would an abductor care whether or not the smell of chloroform lingered ?

He wouldn't have wanted to be overcome himself.

It wouldn't but it would be in their interest to create a flow of air to disperse volatile gas in order not to be affected themselves.

As you know, Icabod, there are several other additional reasons that the window might have been opened.

There are loads about these type of robberies - these are only some examples. I'm quite surprised that not everybody is aware of it.

I can't find nothing serious in the French media about those gangs. Victims think they were gassed because they woke up dizzy, vomiting, etc. No specific gas is named. Anyhow gas in the air takes time to work, it wasn't the modus operandi in Madeleine's case.
