DCI, Mr Amaral's money is nobody's business. He didn't get it through a Website dedicated to a noble cause.

Sorry Anne, but Amaral made a lot of money cashing in on the tragedy of a missing child.

His book was a best-seller, Rachel, as Mrs McCann's one was. People weren't forced to buy these books, quite a few were ready to give a modest amount of money to satisfy their curiosity. I don't find it fair to speak of "money cashing on a tragedy" in one case and not in the other.

The McCann's didn't waste the money on themselves, Amaral did, make "money cashing in on a tragedy.
So there is a difference Anne.

What did the McCanns waste the money on ?
People were curious of the PJ's investigation, they didn't expect Mr Amaral to describe the lost of Madeleine, a tragedy that Mrs McCann had lived and could describe. The motives to buy one book and/or the other were certainly different.

Anne, Kate McCann paid the proceeds of her book into the fund to find Madeleine, not into her own pocket.  Amaral lined his own pockets on the back of this tragedy.

This is why I suggested a little bit of transparency would likely turn sceptics into supporters.

Yea  it would, in The meantime the supporters attack when anyone says they used the fund to use lawyers and ask for proof and once proof is given they have rabies attacks and never accept it but  say it cannot be  true unless you actually type the words rather than giving links and cant so their own donkey work, LoooL, sad

BUMPED

Why is no mention ever made of the hundreds of thousands of £s put into the fund by the McCanns and also their friends.   None of them needed to do that.   The compensation money, the profits from the book, could all have gone into personal private accounts if they had chosen to do that.  But none of them did.    That doesn't sound like people who are 'in it for the money' to me.

I'm amazed how Sceptics always miss that very large elephant in the room.

Transparancy, openess,  and a willingness to address important   questions,   would almost  certainly turn some sceptics into supporters

You make it sound as if the McCanns are 'public property' Icab.  They don't owe you any explanations, just as you don't have to answer to them.  They are free citizens - no different to any other citizen who has never been charged with any crime.

The only reason sceptics want more ''transparency'' as they laughingly call it  - (they really mean 'ammunition' imo) -  is so that they can pore over every tiny little item, looking to find fault - which of course they will, even if there's no fault to be found.     More information means more opportunity to make sticks to beat the McCanns with.   It's as simple as that IMO.

As long as the Inland Revenue is happy with the accounts then so am I.   It goes without saying that the taxman will have received letters informing him that the accounts are 'fraudulent' from some sceptics.   As a result of that 'warning'  from the public - the accounts will always be closely scrutinised - probably by a senior officer so that the IR are satisfied there can be no comeback on themselves.  What more can anyone ask.

As pointed out previously a great deal of the money in the fund is their own, which they were not obliged to put in  - but chose to.   The fact that sceptics overcome this inconvenient fact of life, by completely blanking it out and never acknowledging its existence -  is quite telling IMO.

May I ask what 'important' questions you are referring to Icab which you think would turn sceptics into supporters if they had an answer?

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.
