I think birch is another carpetbagger...lets say he got permission to dig up murats drive...he would then try and sell tv rights...IMO

Agreed. He's in it for himself. I'd completely forgotten that the property he was trespassing on was actually Jenny Murats!

She's not young. I hope she didn't feel too intimidated.

Not a very nice thing to do. Completely self-serving person. He complains about all the money he's spent on the case - must indeed have been a lot with his group expeditions to Portugal, two sets of lawyers, not to mention R&D for the invention of the century - but that's his problem.

When he explains at the start of this new video that the McCann case is a religious experience for him that really sums the whole thing up.

He takes obsession to a whole new level.

Is there anyone on this thread who thinks there is any merit or ethics or fairness in this driveway theory whatsoever?
If not, then what is being debated? A good argument requires that at least one person proposes the opposite point of view.

He takes obsession to a whole new level.

The one good thing I would say for him is that he is big enough to suggest that he might be wrong.

He does say that one of the reasons for digging up the drive is that it might result in his theory being ruled out.

But unfortunately that would spur him on, so he says, to turn his attentions to a different theory.

Sounds like he's in it for the long haul.

Good point, pegasus. There is a lack of debate on this thread.

Although it is right and good that we are all free to come up with and express our own theories and ideas, Stephen Birch, in taking the law into his own hands and trespassing onto Mrs Murat's property, has gone much further. He has impinged upon someone else's rights in order to assert his own.

There are occasions when it is necessary to go beyond the law in order to change things but this is not one of them, and that being so I don't think we're going to find many defenders of Stephen Birch.

What I would like to know is why Birch wasn't arrested for trespass and criminal damage?  What he and his co conspirators did might pass as acceptable in deepest South Africa but it most certainly isn't acceptable in Portugal.

I still think that Rob and Jenny should invite the PJ in to investigate Birch's claims so that he can be finally exposed as a fraud.

The Murat's may have done do already, but like most topics we discuss on here we do not know.

At least there seems to be a good level of support on this thread for Mr Murat which is a positive and pleasing result.

If the Murats are guilty of anything it is naivety.  They were both public spirited in the aftermath and ended up being condemned.  Rob in particular bared his soul to that stupid cow reporter and she dobbed him in as some sort of paedo weirdo.

I would wager that he now wishes he had stayed at home the day after Maddie disappeared and left them to it!!

Did Jenny actually notice anything at the bottom of the garden at the time? Even if she had noticed and reported apparent trespassing to the GNR, without knowing who it might have been, what would the GNR be expected to do? When were his admissions of trespassing actually made public?

It's way too late for that though.

I should stress I have no doubt Birch is a fraud and a Charlatan.

But if they dig up the Murats' drive and find nothing, that will nail nothing and instead give rise to fresh speculation and fresh innuendo: when was "the body" (spit!) exhumed and moved, and where to?

Best to leave Birch to stew, I reckon.

I would rather ask "what wouldn't the GNR be expected to do ?"
