I see Gerry's 14 messages, have increased to 18, in Anne's post.

Also in the data provided by this operator are 14 SMS messages received by the mobile phone of Gerald Patrick McCann, sent by the number 4477850####, however in the first listings obtained by the analysts, referring to the activations of the antennae that serve the area from where Madeleine disappeared, for the 2nd to 4th May, those messages had originated from mobile phone number 4478152####.

No anomaly was found with respect to the operator TMN.

http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/PHONE_TEXTS.htm

Albym cracked that one years ago.

An old post from 3a:

The number that sent the 14 received text messages is: +44781852****
This is a Vodaphone voice mail service number - I rang it and that's what it says.

They will be messages notifiying him of a voicemail message being left.

Gerry (or someone) checked his voicemail twice in the evening by dialling 91121 (Vodafone voicemail).

So Gerry was getting voicemail throughout the day from one or more callers.

He didn't respond to any of them using his mobile on the 2nd or 3rd of May.

He got no voicemail messages on May 3rd.

He got 4 on May 4th.

**** I just took off the last 4 digits.

Whether Vodafone still does this or not, many operators did at the time: they'd send you frequent reminders by SMS to remind you to consult your voicemail, whether it was one voice message or several.

Gerry said that his phone only held 10 messages (mine only held 10 back then as well.) Damned annoying if you've left your phone on standby and find all these reminders for what may be for the same message that you'd hadn't listened to. And when you're on roaming you pay each time.

I understand nothing. Do you mean, Carana, that the 14 messages Mr McCann received on the 2nd of May were from Vodafone ? Was it Mr McCann's UK operator ? Then why is TMN mentioned ? And why are the numbers different.
I find it hard to believe that the MP did an appeal at the Evora Court to have access to a standard sms advising to call your voice box.

Anne.  I think you will find that Vodaphone is a UK mobile phone operator.  Gerry was, it appears, a customer of Vodaphone in the UK.  This means that whilst in the UK, if he had voicemail waiting then he would be notified by Vodaphone using a special number.

However, at the time of these messsages he was in a country called Portugal.  (I don't know whether you have been there?).  In Portugal, one of the operators of mobile telephony is a company called Telecomunicações Móveis Nacionais.

Now, this name really is a bit of a mouthful.  So some very clever people decided to shorten it to TMN (Telecomunicações Móveis Nacionais - geddit?).

As the McCanns were in Portugal at the time, their calls were routed through this mobile telephone company, TMN.   (Telecomunicações Móveis Nacionais - do you remember me mentioning them before?).   And that is why TMN were mentioned.

I hope that makes things a bit clearer for you.

Well a thing at least is clearer for me, but, I guess, not what you're expecting ;)
Vodafone is implanted in Portugal desde 1992 as a cellphone operator and provides also internet, landline phone and TV.

Anne's link translates literally as >>

The Court of appeal of Évora has dismissed the action brought by public prosecutors of Portimão that wished to have access to the text messages that Gerry McCann received on your phone at night when daughter Madeleine vanished, the 3 of may of last year. In the order dated 29 April and adopted unanimously, the judges state that "the content of the messages can only be subject to real-time interception, with court permission, not taking place ask the mobile network operators in Portugal the consignment in digital form, the contents of message communications sent and received between certain phonesat a certain past period ". Such a situation, advance "embodies a request about a reality which, from the legal standpoint, can never have occurred, on pain of possible foray into criminal liability, of whom had done or allowed to consummate consumasse \". The judges point out that messages can only be obtained through the prior placement of technical interception devices and recording "what ever lacked evaluation of their legality by the examining magistrate". In the order, which comes after the investigating magistrate not have authorized criminal access of messages as the MP-you can still see that in the context of the disappearance of Madeleine, the judicial police investigates "the possible occurrence of the practice of the crimes of kidnapping, murder, exposure or abandonment of minor and concealment of corpse". In the document it is revealed that Gerry has received 14 written messages on May 2 and on the following day to the disappearance of her daughter only four and the same mobile number, which is not identified.

So what was the content of these messages that were so secret?

Why would anyone who claims to be 100% innocent go to such trouble to deny such messages?

This for me reeks of hypocrisy.

John, I am not sure you have read this very poor translation carefully.

the judge is stating, highlighted in red, that these messages can only be obtained by prior placement of the technical equipment to record the messages. this technical equipment was not in place on may 3 so the texts were not recorded so could not be made available.

If you don't agree could you explain what the judge means by prior placement of technical equipment.

Well spotted Davel, so Anne saying "The unique odd point is that Mr McCann pretended he never got those sms", is wrong?

TMN is mentioned because that quote above, extracted from the phone text analysis document, concerned the section written by the analyst mentioning some of the anomalies in the info provided by various phone operators.

TMN has nothing to do with it - he's just saying that no anomalies were found in the info provided by that operator.

The judges (there were more than one and they all agree in not allowing access to the sms) did say no access could be granted retroactively.

So the prosecutor took it all the way to the appeal court to try to get the contents of... 14 voicemail reminders?

Wouldn't it have been simpler (and less expensive) if the police had simply thought about the possibility and asked Gerry first?

Even though they were deleted (who needs 14 reminders?), it would have been easy enough to check newer voicemails from the same number.

But are you very sure of that, Carana ?
Actually (a note I don't have the reference of but could look for it) Mr Mitchell was very silent when asked. He didn't say "why didn't you ask us for the content ?".

They couldn't ask Gerry, Carana, because as Anne said, he pretended he didn't have them.

It would be useful if you could find a reference, Anne, to see the context and the date.
