I think that was the remark addressed to me, John.  In fairness to Luz, it was not even french - I think what she was perhaps trying to say was "démerdez-vous!", which is not derogatory.  8)-)))

Is that what she may have meant?

Well I suppose at a stretch it could just be in context.  It just shows how careful you have to be when trying to be clever in other languages - the potential for looking foolish is enormous.   ?{)(**

Why is Mrs Hubbard at the trial,  giving evidence about the devastation the McCanns suffered when Amaral published his book

By that time the McCanns were back in Britain and the Hubbards had returned to Canada  ...  is that not correct

I understand that they may have kept in touch,  but surely this woman is not the one best placed to speak  for the McCanns  ?

Why did they choose her as a witness when she did not even witness their distress in person  ?

I believe the Hubbards arrived 3 or 4 days after Madeleine disappeared and were still in Portugal at the time Kate's book was published.  Whether they are still there I don't know.   Susan Hubbard and Kate became close friends.

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

I believe Susan Hubbard now lives in Canada. However she was flown in to 'babysit' the twins when the McCanns were promoting Kate's book and was flown in to keep Kate company on her solitary visit to PDL in May this year. Makes you wonder whether the McCanns still have any support at all within their close circle of family and friends.

It would seem that twitter is awash with vile anti-McCann rhetoric, all prompted by details of the trial.

No doubt another reason why Amaral wanted proceedings in camera.

All Mr Amaral's loyal supporters doing their worst by him by proving what damage his thesis has done to their reputation ...

The Hubbards lived in Praia da Luz between 2007 and 2012.

Since Madeleine’s disappearance, the Hubbards have participated in a memorial vigil held in Portugal each year — the most recent of which occurred in April 2013. So Susan was not flown in to to babysit the twins or to keep Kate company on her solitary visit to PDL in APRIL this year.

From the article :

Kate McCann yesterday flew to the resort where she last saw daughter Madeleine as a friend revealed: “She feels close to her there.”

'She made the lone journey three days after collapsing in tears at a prayer service at her home village to mark the sixth anniversary of Maddie’s disappearance.

One of her first visits will be to the medieval church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, or Our Lady of the Light, in Praia da Luz in Portugal’s Algarve to pray and light candles.'

And from Kate's book :

'While Susan Hubbard, over from Portugal to look after Sean and Amelie, took charge of Madeleine's birthday party for me and Gerry in Rothley, our gift to our daughter was a marathon day of intensive interviews and press conferences in London. Back at our hotel that evening, Clarence received word that Gerry should expect a call from David Cameron's private secretary. Incredibly, it seemed the prime minister might already have agreed to a review. We hadn't expected a response to the open letter for several days at least, if we got one at all. We hardly dared to hope this was true until several conversations with various government officials confirmed that a review was to be conducted by the Metropolitan Police. Oh my God ! Finally help was coming. Happy Birthday Madeleine. Other than hearing that she had been found there could have been no news sweeter to my ears. We were so grateful.'

Whatever you think of Amarals theories, how inappropriate it was of him, to publish such a book.

The man is quite obviously unhinged and his motives are suspect, to say the least.

Yes she was obviously, seeing as she left Portugal in 2012 LOL

And as per Faiths above post flew to the UK to babysit the children while K and G were doing book launch interviews

Then the whole Portuguese police team must be by your argument unhinged as it was a collective theory not one held by some lone maverick!

On what basis do you make that judgement ?
