I think Kate cut a very lonely figure today. Abandoned by her husband, their families and their tapas friends even the hardest of hearts must have felt a twinge of sympathy for this most desolate of women.Still I suppose that's what happens when you let your moral compass take you off in the wrong direction.

Yes, I'll second that, absolutely magic!   8@??)(
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

Kate arrives accompanied by a close friend and her mother to support her.

Amaral arrives alone with not a single  friend or family member to support him.

But IYO it is Kate who 'cuts a lonely figure' and has been 'abandoned'?

If I live to be a hundred - I will never understand the 'logic' of sceptics.

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

A question for Anne Guedes.

Apparently, at the beginning of proceedings Amaral requested that the hearing be conducted in camera.  What were his reasons for this request, and what were the grounds for its rejection?

A

Amaral wanted publicity for his book. He wanted the world to know that he was right and the McCann's had something to do with Madeleine's death. Amaral agreed to the documentary and several PAID interviews (where is that money!?)  Amaral encouraged his supporters to flaunt his material, his theory and his propaganda, but yesterday he made a surprising turn around and didn't want the media at the trial. Very odd indeed.
After 8 pages in this thread, still no answer as to why.

Faithlilly - quoted in several newspapers:
"Kate McCann arrived for the first day of the libel trial in Lisbon against Mr Amaral accompanied by her mother Susan Healy and filmmaker Emma Loach.
The trial began with a failed attempt by lawyers for Mr Amaral to have the media excluded from the courtroom to "preserve the memory of Madeleine", before Susan Hubbard - a friend of the McCanns - took to the stand as the first witness." http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home-news/libel-trial-is-told-of-mccanns-anguish.22141495

But it's not Kate's mum, it's Susan Hubbard.

Well then you better contact all those who reported that Kate's mum was present and correct them.
