He took almost a year off work and his employers were  (  understandably  )  very sympathetic and accommodating  ...  yet  he couldn't take one day off today  ?  ...  a very important day when his wife would, otherwise,  be left to endure torment alone  ...  his bosses said  " No" ? 

... and the  'looking after the twins'  part   ?   

He couldn't leave them in the care of loving family members for a day   ? ...  this same man who sashayed  off down the road leaving those twins  (  at a much younger age  ) along with their three year old sister,   entirely alone and vulnerable in an unlocked apartment at night  ? 

Is anyone buying that  ? 

If not  ...  why is Gerry not with Kate in Lisbon tonight  ?

For exactly the same reason he hasn't been out searching for his daughter for the last six years.  Something else takes priority - HIS CAREER!!

Amazing the way some folk expect the McCanns to report and explain every single move they make to them   It's as if they own them.  They are not public property and whatever the reason may be for their decision  - it really is no-one's business but theirs.

Is there nothing on this earth that this couple can do or say which isn't immediately 'jumped on' and 'picked over' to the Nth degree until its been turned into yet another stick to beat them with?   Apparently not.

The Mccanns through their actions and courting the press, when it suits them have made themselves 'public property'.

Judging by the comments on the yahoo news pages, if they are fairly representative, they have reached  all time low in public opinion.

e.g.

    'The McCanns must surely realise that they are at the very bottom of the popularity ladder worldwide - not just in Portugal. The author is quite entitled to publish his opinion about the McCann case. I doubt if they can prove that the book is poisoning public opinion when their reputation is already so toxic.'

P.S. There are far worse comments.

Also I suspect the image of one man by himself against kate mccann and her entourage will not go down well either, especially abroad.

The fact that the Baby Listening Service has been offered at hotels and holiday complexes for years  and used by holidaymakers for years would be enough proof for most people.    Unless they are completely blinkered by hate of course.

He is a consulatant cardiologist working for the NHS, doing a job of crucial importance to his patients.

He clearly has a committment to his profession and to his patients.  If he chooses to put them first, then I for one applaud him   It seems that perhaps some of his critics have not been in such a position ofvocation and trust - otherwise they might understand and not make stupid comments.
