Shame he wasn't prepared to be named, which might have given the story more credibility.

Sure, name him.  Have the media bombard him .... and possibly compromise the search.

Thinking cap on, jassi.

And how would it compromise any search? If the police & media were so concerned, the information wouldn't have been released in the first place.

My conclusion would be that it has already been checked out - ( it was supposed to have been in August), or the story is an attention-seeking invention.

I think that is highly likely, jassi, but until any arrests are made the Police will not want any names getting out.  In case of co-ercion or compromising the case.

Dont you find it interesting that this has been allowed out before a big reconstruction and the crimewatch program in a weeks time

Cos, I do.

Indeed, very interesting timing.

Can you tell me - have the police made any comment at all on this sighting, or has it just all been media-driven?

Pretty sure this sighting would have been checked out before being released in the papers.

I have this image of a startled hare standing up in a field every time the British Press bring out yet more Madeleine stories.

I bet The Hare is sitting up all startled now, Insider.

Manchester police declined to comment...other "facts" come from the usual "a source said"

Notice the headlines and text say she was spotted alive

Well, obviously, unless someone found a body!

Aw, come on.  Do tell

Sure. Probably down to a certain PR merchant who has been adopted as a prospective parliamentary candidate somewhere, though naturally unattributable, hence a 'source'

Why? - I don't think anyone else on the team is capable of coming up with such obviously stupid stories.
