Martin Smith may have been 60%-80% sure (which isn't really THAT sure is it?) that it might have been Gerry, but other members of the family were 100% sure that it wasn't Gerry.   So on the balance of percentages who is more likely to be right?  Not Martin Smith IMO.
Your way of manipulating percentages is funny, Benice. The other day it was the face that counted for 20% in identifying someone. To-day you're inventing a 100% sure, creating another rumour. We don't know what they say, we only know through Mr Smith (hearsay then) that they didn't share their parents' feeling.

Please provide the source material that states the rest of the Smith family were 100% sure it wasn't Gerry.

The rest of the family (apart from his wife) did not agree with Mr. Smith     Not - they didn't agree 'a little bit'  - or they didn't agree 'quite a lot' - they simply didn't agree that the man they saw on the 3rd was Gerry McCann.    How can that be described as anything other than 100%  disagreement?

I don't go in for creating rumours.

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

And it was only hearsay that his wife backed him

That will be interesting ... but wives sometimes follow their hubbies, even if they dont agree.  Tis easier that way.

You don't know what they think, they never said it. You interpret people and then claim your interpretation is a fact. Hence the rumour.

Quote from Mr Smith

I would be 60-80% sure that it was Gerard McCann that I met that night carrying a child. I am basing that on his mannerism in the way he carried the child off the plane. After seeing the BBC news at 10 PM, footage on the 9th September 2007 I contacted Leicestershire police with this information. During that time I spoke to all my family members who were with me on the night of 3rd May 2007 about this and the only one who felt the same way as me was my wife.
end quote

So where does 'rumour' come into this Anne?

You implied that the rest of the Smith family were 100% sure it wasn't Gerry.
There is no proof of this.

but it is hearsay.

It is not from Mrs Smiths mouth.

If she believed it and actually said it, why didn't she avail herself of a free flight and visit her apartment in the sun ?

I'm afraid I have no idea what you mean by that Anne.    However, I'm off to bed now, so will have to wait until tomorrow to see your reply.

Night night.

More importantly a totally independent witness in the Tapas places Gerry McCann there at almost exactly the same time as the Smith sighting.
