I couldn't quite get my head around the fact that the parents missed her "on special occasions, when the whole family should be there" when IMO they would miss her every waking moment of every single day. She wasn't some dodgy fat uncle who would visit twice a year.

I suppose, as Kate stressed on Crime Watch, they did nothing wrong.

I know what you mean shona ...  sometimes they say things that leave me shaking my head

That silly woman on Crimewatch didn't help either  ...  talking about a  'Madeleine shaped hole'  in their lives  !

how would you know when they missed madeleine ? of course they miss her every day..what kind of sad sap are you shona!  8-)(--)

I'm wondering that too.

They were saying how big family occasions were particularly painful for them - which any normal person would have no problem in understanding.
The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

But that's what they said. They miss their daughter when it's a big do. How bloody inconvenient of her.

I might be a sad sap, but if, God forbid if I'd lost a child, I wouldn't even be able to breathe or function. My life would be over. I wouldn't piss and moan that Christmas was a bit of a bummer. My tennis skills would probably be a bit bolloxed, too.

I would hate to offend your sensibilities. But no one knows what happened to that little girl. Sadly, if she'd have been more important than a smug couple showing off and talking crap, there would be no story, she would be here. And we could all go home.

It's just that the  language  they use is so alien to me

I remember Holly Wells father speaking about his precious girl,  and his  raw pain,  and the normal language he used to express it ,  was  unbearable  to witness

The  McCanns talking about how they miss their little girl at party times   did not affect me so profoundly

If that makes me  'inhumane'  ...  so be it

Well SY seem quite sure that she was abducted - and as unlike us they have ALL the files, professionally interpreted,  the ability to interview anyone they want to, all the necessary computer equipment and the combined expertise of 38 experienced detectives working full time, then if I have to choose between their conclusions and part time armchair detectives with only some of the facts and nothing else to go on   - then IMO it's no contest.

stop misquoting them shona it doesnt become you ..they did say especially when its Christmas or madeleine's birthday etc ..that doesnt mean they don't miss their daughter every day ..and I hope to god you don't find yourself in the same situation as the mccanns ..

I trust the NSY when they say "The McCanns & their group of friends are not suspects".

on that note i'll bid you a goodnight  8((()*/

Ostensibly, the fund continues to provide financial resources for a search for Madeleine who went missing (the abduction theory was proposed by her parents and there is no evidence for it.)

However, in practice, if you take a closer look at some of the investigation teams and detectives employed by the McCann team, you will see that not a lot was happening.

And it is worth bearing in mind that the police investigation in Portugal did not find any evidence of an abduction but did find evidence that Madeleine died in the apartment. They considered the abduction theory to be a fake and they were suspicious about the behaviour of the McCanns and their friends in the days after Madeleine went missing and suspicious about the things that were said and the inconsistencies of the stories. That information is all in the files which can be seen on the internet.

There are those who claim that the fund is being used to employ lawyers to sue critics of the abduction theory and spin doctors to enhance the public image of the McCanns and media experts to keep alive the 'hunt' for Madeleine and the various alleged sightings around the world.

And while the McCann's continue to urge everyone to keep looking and never give up, and keep donating to the fund, it would have helped their cause - the cause to find their missing daughter - enormously if they themselves had started looking when she went missing, rather than expecting everyone else to do if for them. And indeed that still seems to be the case. Kate has admitted that she is not excited by any of the sightings. They both seem to have a huge emotional attachment to 'The Fund' and 'everyone's ' obligation to keep it going but a strange lack of personal responsibility in terms of the disappearance of their daughter - leaving their children unattended when they had suspicions that someone was watching her/leaving her to cry in distress for over an hour/not searching for their daughter on the night that they claimed she was abducted/not even wanting to go to the police station a few days after a possible sighting (Kate was 'irritated' at the suggestion...........???)

Meanwhile, the media circus continues.

In short, I speculate that the Portugese police who initially were probably completely flummoxed by the hysteria (and you cannot blame them - given the circumstances) later became even more flummoxed by the attitude, behaviour and words of the McCanns and their friends which I imagine they felt were inconsistent with parents who were desperate to find a child who had inexplicably gone missing.

It must have been pretty strange for them when Kate got annoyed when they asked her to go to the police station when they had a CCTV siting of a child at a petrol station nearby.....I mean, she had got hysterical about her child being abducted....later on criticized the handling of the alleged abduction by the police, but then couldn't even summon up any enthusiasm to a possible siting of her daughter.....

Strange state of affairs they must have thought. And then the UK Press go ballistic - and who was it that was so concerned that the UK press became involved and 'on side' so early on........

It's amazing that Max Clifford didn't pop up on 5th May in the Algarve....

Gerry must have seen the criticism because he corrected himself in the German Crimewatch. He also said about Maddie "We loved her". Speaking in the past tense is a giveaway.

bizarre too. Even if they know she's dead, love doesn't tend to stop when life does for those of us who are left behind.
