Subject: Roman Tunnels in Praia da Luz, for annexing to the case files.

Within the scope of the investigation of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, the British police recently sent this police force the emails that are annexed, containing information about the possible existence of ancient underground tunnels of Roman origin in Praia da Luz, which presumably cross the entire village and which could be the subject of investigation by this police force.

Within this context and the aim of checking the accuracy of these emails on this date Engineer Martins from the Department of Urbanism and Infrastructure from the Lagos Municipal Chamber was contacted, he immediately supplied us with a CD with the cartography of the sewerage network of Praia da Luz at underground level, which shows that there are only tunnels for rainwater evacuation. These maps were printed and are annexed to this service report.

Yes it all seems very confusing. I've read there's chambers under the roman baths. Nobody seems to know what's underneath the church, if there's even a cellar? The PJ surely must have checked underneath the church? It's all very vague on places where you should search in the first week of her disappearance.

You have to realize that a person alerted the LC sending a copypaste of what was in a tabloid !
To spicy her e-mails, she imagined an archaeologist mixed up with the Casa Pia case. That should sound familiar to many here.... Where is she by the way ?

What could the LC do ? Forward the e-mails to the PJ (without saying the e-mailer had copypasted the tabloid, because likely they didn't know).
What could the PJ do ? Certainly not risk to be criticized once more. They called a specialist whose answer is above.

The UK police..in the email...are highly critical of the Portuguese police for not searching the bins...that's a fact...you can make any excuse you want but the criticism of the Portuguese police by the uk police is a recorded fact

Which UK police? certainly not LP who wrote the email replies to shrieking "elaine" whoever she is..... see ***** below..... certainly doesnt sound like police to me


There is comment from the retired policemen and others who appeared in the c4 dispatches programme in October 07 on the page pathfinder originally posted 13/13....not sure if this is all verbatim or near  enough.. I cant see the preceding page to 13/13, 12 you would think, which makes sense as the previous page of that first sentence and the copy and paste job..maybe Im looking in the wrong place

Report from 20 NOV 07:

"Portuguese detectives have searched the church in Praia da Luz where Mr and Mrs McCann prayed after Madeleine disappeared, according to reports.

Officers examined the church of Nossa Senhora da Luz and an old cemetery nearby "informally and with maximum discretion" about two weeks ago, the Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias said.

They were looking for clues that would suggest the young girl's body was hidden there, the paper reported."

The medieval Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz (dedicated to ‘Our Lady of Light’) was built around 1521.  As a result of the 1755 Lisbon earthquake it was badly damaged and its restoration  in 1874 was funded by local contributions.  In the 20th century a violent storm and the 1969 earthquake caused similar damage to the church body

The foundations weren't damaged.
The Algarve is a seismic area. Usually you don't notice earthquakes, especially if you're walking. But this is a reason why you shouldn't leave a little child alone. No warning, a second or two and then it lasts for a minute and can start again. Children in Portugal are trained at school about what to do in case of an earthquake.

Of course, it's true. He didn't say it, it was the Engineer Martins from Lagos town hall who said it. Furthermore, the respective documents were attached to his report. So, how could Ricardo Paiva lie?
