Perhaps he wasn't confident that his alibi would hold up to close scrutiny  if put to the test.

That lack of confidence would not explain supposed 'suppression' for five years. The facts vindicate him - as he and others well know.

the point is they weren't released

Exactly.

For people that have been crying out loud that nobody was investigating, that have the effrontery to make a court case against someone they accuse of hindering the search for the child, suppressing those e-fits are very damaging in regards not only to their position as alleged victims but mostly to their character.

Where was their concern for their alleged abducted child?!!!!!!!!

That would indeed be contradictory.

But I am trying to work out WHY the e-fits were suppressed - if they were indeed suppressed.

The idea that one or both of them supposedly look like Gerry is to me is very weak. First of all, they don't look like Gerry, and second of all, Gerry had a strong alibi for the time and place to which those e-fits allude. Not good enough reasons to explain a 5 year suppression of information, Soviet style. There must be more to it than that.

Yes, but what Gerry had to fear in releasing them is questionable.

His presence in the OC area at the time of the Smith sighting is well-founded.
No, precisely. See the AG report.

The only reason I can think of is that they were considered, for whatever reason, to be unhelpful to the McCann agenda.

I think we need to think about how that would be so.

Thank you. Same as Red my lost post- along these lines. It doesn't matter if it was an abduction or not. The man seen carrying the cold sleeping child in his arms has to be identified. If the efits were released in 2008 then important eye witnesses may have come forward. That man has never came forward and his silence speaks volumes!

Neither did ex-Bundleman until he was identified.

Some people have followed the case closely for years, but others may not have done beyond the initial weeks.

I think we need to think about how that would be so.

Depending on where you read, and who you choose to believe, those efits were passed to the police. The Mccanns paid for them.  They paid for the investigation at that point. Why would they enter into such a thing if it had to potential to find their child, if they didn't want her found?

What agenda?

Good point Jazzy, I didn't pick up on that.

Specifically what agenda of the McCanns would be served by not releasing pictures that do not look very like Gerry McCann (or, if you want, that may look like Gerry McCann, though are unlikely to represent him given the strength of his alibi)?

I think we need to think about how that would be so.

It trashed their bundleman theory and instead promoted a sighting of someone identified as Gerry.

The release of these contradictory e-fits sounds more Crimewatch's style than SY's. It had the likely expected effect to provoke over 2400 calls. It there's some unemployment in the Met, that will have resolved it for a time. If SY's intention was to reveal the inexplicable concealment of these documents for 5 years, good job !

What agenda?

They've always had an agenda, right from the begging - remember the bigger picture?
Just don't ask me what it is, as I've never been able to follow the thought processes of the McCanns.
