That would be more plausible than the argument that she was abducted by an invisible, untraceable, immaterial being....as has been portrayed by the defenders of an abduction.

Really? She is missing though, isn't she? Her parents are "not persons of interest" to the ongoing inquiry. Alien abduction is more plausible to you than any human agency?

Well they weren't in the end (made arguidos) but they were told by their lawyer that they were going to be charged (Kate to admit to it and get 2 year sentence) and left quickly (a day earlier than planned) when they were told they were free to leave.

He said aliens had abducted her? When were they charged then?

but they weren't charged were they ...so why say they were ..and yes they were free to leave

Their lawyer said they were going to be charged and a deal was on the table - Kate admit to disposing the body and get 2 years.

But if she didn't fancy 2 years in jail she could just leave Portugal and there was the end to it was also an option?

The lawyer didn't know that at the time. He was told they were going to be charged and a deal was on the table. A few days later charges were  dropped and they were free to leave.
