Author Topic: Redwood & Co arrive in Faro along with the tourists. Not a PJ officer in sight?  (Read 5937 times)

After having seen the latest photographs and video from Faro International Airport I can't help thinking that the cosy relationship so oft written about between Scotland Yard and the Polícia Judiciária is not quite happening.  Not only were Redwood and his three detective colleagues required to go through all the usual formalities at the airport but they were left standing outside with photographers making hay, how embarrassing.

The Portuguese police could have extended the courtesy to the English detectives of bypassing the normal formalities, they could have been met at the aircraft steps.  That this did not happen, inspires little confidence in what is still to come.

Another question which must be asked is why was it necessary for four Scotland Yard detectives to travel to Portugal?  It's not as if they are going to be able to question anyone since they have no mandate to do so on foreign turf.  I find this situation to be highly questionable considering the public funds which have already been squandered on this case.

There existed no reason why this latest trip to Portugal had to be publicised.  By announcing their intentions in advance they effectively damaged any advantage they might have had.  Police officers involved in enquiries overseas are not in the habit of announcing their intentions so why now?

Is this latest development nothing more than a publicity stunt?

Why so negative statement?
Maybe it doesn't matter to them? Maybe they wanted to be seen?

We shall remember that during a racing in sporting it is not important who is expected to win or who is first during the half of a game but the one who gets to the end first..

IMO SY has a long standing strength to win this race. And I mean race against criminals. Even if they are doing it methodically and slowly and in their own way - they will get there!

The British consul would have been expected. DCI Redwood and Co weren't invited.
The LC inspectors didn't pick up the PJ inspectors at the airport in 2008.

IMO this is all rubbish.

We are now in 2014 and this status complex that some people have is out of fashion.

We are talking about pure professionals on duty and not some queen visiting  @)(++(*

That's not how it works.  Police officers carrying out official duties in foreign countries are usually met by the host officers.

They often go there.. SY just confirmed that.. this is one of their 'usual' trips.. only this time they were filmed.. it is not like they are doing a rare trips..

I don't agree they have to be waited for.. and greeted.. that is a formality which is not needed..

Remember that this is not Oporto or Lisbon but Faro where local officers will be very aware of the criticisms which has already been directed towards them.

Good question as to why it took four of them to oversee questioning of three locals.

I think the real heat will arise when they go home empty handed.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

It is not like they are going to heaven on Earth.. there are plenty of sun in many countries and I am sure they can afford a weekend there.. 8(0(*

I am not sure on which planet some people in here live on.. and this is not meant for you AnneGuedes..

Many people want to underline that there is a hostile situation in between PJ and SY and I cannot see this anywhere else except in some forum posts..

They are a team working together on a criminal case which they both want to resolve..

And I don't see anything negative in this case finally being resloved!!

The whole PJ (Portugal is a small country, 10 millions souls) is aware of what has globally been said against them. No police in the EU has been treated like this by the media of another country. As it is unprecedented I think it will take time for them to forget but I'm pretty sure also they've integrated this to this country's fatum, in order to shrug it off.

This is your view. PJ hasn't been assaulted.. My view is that PJ is a reputable police force and Mr Amaral doesn't equal PJ.. if you mean him being assaulted.. IMO he deserved it..

There are several Met Officers who've been unprofessional and been removed from their posts.. this doesn't mean the whole Met Police is crap..

I suggested that 3 inspectors were needed to handcuff 3 burglars.

Indeed,

I hope the PJ arrest those burglars & they are sentenced for their crimes.

Then they & SY can get back on with investigating Madeleines disappearance.
