Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito have been found guilty for the second time for the murder of English student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy, on 1 November 2007.

The verdict is the third in the case - and may yet be appealed

A court in Italy has reinstated the guilty verdicts against Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito for the murder of UK student Meredith Kercher in 2007.  American Knox - who is in the US - and her Italian ex-boyfriend Sollecito had pleaded not guilty.

She was sentenced to 28 years and six months in jail, while Sollecito received 25 years.  Miss Kercher was stabbed to death in the flat she shared in Perugia with Knox.

Knox says she will never return to Italy voluntarily and added that she will have to be taken back kicking and screaming.  For his part, Sollecito was last night arrested by Italian police as he attempted to flee the country for his Dominican Republic hideaway.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

Whats the likelihood of her being sent back to Italy to serve her sentence?

My guess, not a chance.

My initial reaction was the same but it is going to put the US under enormous pressure.  Why should any country who is party to extradition agreements honour a US warrant if the US won't honour theirs?

Most papers and blogs are saying it will be very difficult to reject any call for extradition

As for the appeals, they will be to the same court that just delivered this verdict as I understand it, so difficult here too IMO

Knox's ex boyfriend has been apprehended by police apparently at the Slovenian border, I guess that means he goes straight to jail?

Dreadful if they are innocent.

Eta, seems he will be freed

Yet this crook Berlusconi hasn't served a day in jail for his crimes?  It makes a mockery of Italian justice.

Him being a total mockery worldwide is justice enough

there arecertain people who never go to prison for their crimes because they have not been found gulty when their guilt is so blatantly obvious, their being reviled is another kind of justice

There do seem to be a few grey areas... as there are in any case. I'll wait for the motivation ruling, but that "evidence" seems somewhat tenuous to me for the moment.

In terms of background, there seems to have been a lot of misinformation bandied about over the years. For anyone interested:

Oh yes, lots and lots of grey areas! But some of them are so black they cant be painted white. IMO

You are welcome. It seems there are many facts in this case but different interpretations being put on them. There are some facts though that no one can twist. Actually several!

Thanks for the video, Red.

I don't find it to be balanced, TBH, nor apparently entirely accurate.

Someone posted a rebuttal to it (I haven't personally checked all the points made, however).

If is programme was slightly slanted against Knox it wasnt that much so...you dont give credit enough

There are many parts of their story which just cannot be whitewashed away

There's something very odd going on here why have the many sensible responses by NL and ghgfh in reply to John Koenig the ubiquitous defender of Amanda Knox all been deleted - perhaps the moderators can explain this strange happening which I trust isn't some form of censorship.
