This subject has arisen several times across different threads so maybe it's time to face it head on.

My own view is that they were irresponsible leaving two 2-year-olds and a 3-year-old alone in a holiday apartment in a foreign country.  Add to this what we know about Madeleine remonstrating with her mother as to why she and the others had been left alone and the fact that the apartment was by no means secure and you had all the makings of a disaster.

I now open this up for debate.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.

There was something on here that you boasted about in the rearing of your children that some would distinctly look down their noses at .... dangerous ... but you were unaware of it.    I have not mentioned it before,  because I think that you had no idea of the dangers.

But for you to say that the Mccanns were shit parents, for one mistake, a very understandable mistake ... has made my blood boil.  Your unwitting mistake, oft repeated, was far more likely to end in disaster than what they did.  Both Kate and Gerry were fabulous parents as far as I could see.... just one mistake ... yours was repeated.

Quite probably apart from this oft repeated mistake you were a fabulous parent too.

Repeated child abandonment is not a mistake.

Why must you always  'make it personal'  sadie   ?

It's not necessary,  and it adds nothing at all to the debate

Don't know what you are on about Sadie but as it is off topic I won't press you.

Kate and Gerry McCann did not commit one mistake - they repeated their deliberate decision night after night.  And they should both, as doctors, but especially Kate as a GP,  have known that children should not be left alone out of sight and hearing.  And if Kate had known of any parents on her GP's register doing this she would have been expected to report it to the authorities and attend subsequent case conferences.  This is why I find their behaviour particularly inexplicable and unforgivable.  And Madeleine is the victim, no-one else.

I am just pointing out that others make mistakes, but are not torn apart for them publicly .... until they (John) make unfounded comments about people (the Mccanns) destroying their reputations.  Then, and only then, have I mentioned it.  I have not said what it was, but would be happy to tell John by PM.

Something about motes and beams and eyes comes to mind in this instance.

But a barrister reassured they were well within the bounds of responsible parenting.....

Lol

Like to see him in court arguing that when a child came to harm! Whilst they were out down the road and left their front and back doors unlocked

As you well know, Social Services (have I got the right department?) investigated them and found them good parents.
They have done nothing illegal.
They followed and improved on an age old procedure of checking every 30 minutes.  The recognised old procedure was simply a listening method.  The Mccanns method involved a visual check every 30 minutes + another check.
The PJ found nothing illegal about what they had done, where they were eating realtive to the children.
The parents were in the grounds of the hotel within sight and hearing of them had they pulled the patio door open.
Once on the patio, Madeleine would immediately see her Mum and Dad and friends ... and yell.
Amaral, himself said that no-one would have gone in by the patio door as it was too close and over looked by the parents/ Tapas group friends, only 50 metres away

Dear god more unadulterated total garbage!
And for the millionth time they didnt do visual checks you need to swallow that fact that you are continually  ignoring and peddling the opposite as fact sadie

For the HARD of hearing

From 5.00

gerry NEVER made a visual check

And here kate intimates she was not  tempted to to make one either

Social Services have no mandate in respect of offences carried out abroad.  I believe it is illegal to leave young children alone in Portugal, apologies if I have got this wrong.

As for seeing their parents inside a marquee 50 metres away at night, well, good luck with that one!
