The villa search was preceded by an official announcement from the Portimão Tribunal, adverting that such a search would be undertaken and advising that the family, one of them at least or a representative should be present. (the official Form is in the Files, but I have no time to go look for it, mccanfies.co.uk ). Mr& Mrs chose to go to Huelva instead, even though it was an holiday, to distribute posters.

I can't see why would they chose to be absent from such an important operation!

For those keen to discredit Tavares de Almeida and Sousa Amaral
http://www.france2.fr/emissions/faites-entrer-l-accuse/diffusions/07-04-2013_19103

Anne, there is no point. They have no defense for their darlings other than trying to discredit the police.

Even if the police men you are so fiercely are trying to discredit were guilty of what you accuse them, WHERE WOULD THAT MAKE INNOCENT the McCann???????

Or is it: in a country of "dirty cops", you have your child dead, occult her cadaver and they can't do anything to you because they are dirty?????? From that reasoning results that you are not NEGLIGENT by leaving your little under 4 year olds alone for 5 nights in a row, according to your own saying; you are not guilty if any of them suffered any injury; you are not guilty if any of them died; you are not guilty if any of them disappeared (by your own doing or others),..........You are never guilty because the others are.

Brilliant reasoning.
Fortunately the majority of Britons do not think like that and if justice cannot be achieved in Portugal, I bet it will, sooner or later, be achieved in Britain.

It could be that she sustained minor injuries when she tried to commit "suicide" and then she still got beaten up in the prison by the other inmates.

I agree that is possible Montclair, but surely there would be documentation to corroberate that.   I'm thinking of individual reports from the PJ officers present, a doctors report, photographs of any injuries - no matter how minor, or a hospital report - as a fall downstairs could result in internal injuries.    I'm assuming there would be an official procedure for covering suicide attempts whilst in police custody.
The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

Dear Benice,

I owe you no explanation when you choose to select the news that serve your prejudiced opinion.

Leonor was in Faro Police headquarters, in the company of her lawyer, when she confessed to the murder. After that confession she asked to go to the WC. When coming from there, she passed a staircase from where she attempted a jump, but meanwhile made  enough noise to be assisted by a police clerk (the one accused initially of false reporting).
Her lawyer was there, why didn't she file charges immediately and waited until Mr. Marinho Pinto published photoshoped pics, taken more than a week after she was attacked in the prison by her inmates?

In any case it doesn't matter any more. She was proven a liar in a Court Trial and condemned for it.

Maybe you should ask yourself why Aragão Correia, the one that started all this disgusting process, the reason he fled Portugal and is now in Brazil making Parapsychology courses and advertising himself as a psychic.

It seems impossible to believe, in view of what you say, that a Portuguese court of law having heard all the above evidence would then come to the decision that she had in fact been tortured at that police station.  And yet they did.    Inexplicable.

WRONG.

The first trial admitted she had been beaten but couldn't make up where and by whom, and after she couldn't identify the 3 PJs Aragão Correia had written to her in a piece of paper, in a line up, all three were considered innocent.
The second trial, February 2013, concluded she lied about the alleged torture she had suffered in the PJ headquarters, and for that severe lying she was sentenced to seven months in prison, to be fulfilled after her 16 years in prison for murder.

splitting hairs shows desperation  >@@(*&)

So does setting challenges to "put up or shut up" and then ignoring the examples provided.

Here's another one for you:

On January 13 2009, Gerry McCann went to Portugal to meet ID and discuss the legal strategy against Amaral, returning the next day. In July the Mirror published the writ details that the McCanns had given them.  (Source: Madeleine by Kate McCann plus Mirror McCann exclusive).

Media Conferences Called by Gerry McCann

On his arrival in Portugal, Gerry McCann called media conferences to explain why he had returned.

Quote
Gerry McCann: "Ahhh, well... I came back today really to meet with our adviser's, err... including Rogério, errr... Alves to really discuss what can still be done in the ongoing search for Madeleine."

Gerry McCann: "The purpose of this visit is to, errr... really look at what can still be done in the search, we want to be, you know, looking positively, not backwards - looking forwards. 'Cause, you know, we want to find our daughter. It's pretty simple really."

Gerry McCann: "I think, you know, we want to make it absolutely clear what's gone on in the past is, by and large, done and we very, very much want to focus on what can still be done for the search and that's... that's what our priority is and... and it always has been really so any of these things are just, you know, they're not really relevant at the minute."

Press report: 'He assured journalists that this was the first of, "many visits," to set up new operations in the search for his daughter, although he refused to explain what operations he meant and why he had not considered it appropriate to cooperate with the PJ in the past.'

Press report: 'In an interview, Gerry McCann stated that, for the moment at least, he had no intention of taking legal action against the Portuguese State or any other body, including the media, stressing he wanted to "move forward and not back."'

Press conference report: 'Without explaining why the couple did not request the reopening of the investigation while there was time, Gerry McCann wanted to stress his, "willingness to work with the authorities, as much as possible."

Q: "Are you going to going to meet with the Portuguese authorities?"

Gerry McCann: "We haven't got anything specific planned at this point. This is very much my, err... you know, the first visit over here and just to look and... and to try and get a scoping, errr... of what we can still do... really."

Mr Mitchell: "I can confirm that Gerry McCann returned to Portugal for a brief visit to meet his lawyers to see what more can be done to help find his daughter."

Press report: 'According to a Home Office source in London, Madeleine McCann's father, before undertaking his journey to Portugal, obtained every guarantee that he would not be bothered by the Portuguese authorities.'

Press Report: 'Madeleine's father and the English lawyer who accompanied him on the visit to Portugal, on Tuesday, were lodged at the D. Pedro Palace, a five-star hotel and one of the most luxurious in Lisbon. Everything, of course, financed by the 'Find Madeleine' Fund.'

Mr Mitchell was questioned about using the Find Madeleine Fund to stay at the several hundred euros a night D. Pedro Palace.

Clarence Mitchell: "This type of travel obviously fits into the search for Madeleine which is the Fund's purpose.  That was what it was created for and Madeleine's parents will never use it for anything else apart from that."

As the book and the Mirror exclusive several months later proves he was there to meet ID about suing Amaral.

With Thanks to The Interrupted Investigation for pulling all the McCann quotes together in one place.

I thought the second trial concluded that she had wrongly identified her torturers, not that torture had not taken place.

The sad thing is that the McCann lie over and over again but some people tend not to see it. They prefere to throw rocks at those that do not deserve.

As a personal trait I despise stupidity, but most times I tend to excuse dumbness (can I use this word?!!!). Well, since I was a child I always excused lack of information, what we usually call ignorance, but I always had trouble accepting stupidity (those that by stubbornness do not want to learn).

Haha Albertini...more pinocchio stuff later in May 2009... after they had DECIDED on 20 th April 2009 as per madeleine with a small m by KATE MCAANN  big capitals book  to sue Mr Amaral Gerry waffles on lying

From a SIC interview given 12 May 2009

Q There's also been Gonçalo Amaral's book and at the time there was a lot of talk about possible legal charges bought up by you against Gonçalo Amaral. Are you still considering these legal charges against him?

Gerry McCann: We certainly haven't ruled it out.
The reason we haven't done it to date is we didn't want to create... and I think there's been enough Anglo-Portuguese angst, particularly in the media and we certainly, errr... didn't want to exacerbate that but, you know, he clearly is getting, errr... more outrageous and we certainly wouldn't rule it out.

Kate McCann: At the same time, you know, it... it's a distraction, you know, what Mr Amaral is doing. I mean, it's... it's damaging to our search, errm... but at the same time, you know, we want to find Madeleine. We want to move forward and get new information and we don't want to be derailed by negative people who have their own agendas, you know, so...

Gerry McCann: That is... I mean, that's a very good point, you know; we don't want to look back, we are trying to do things, but it gets to the point, errr... where you just think: 'enough's enough'.

So, talking of lies, Luz, have you managed to come up with that proof about Sr Amaral's convicting being overturned yet?

I thought the second trial concluded that she had wrongly identified her torturers, not that torture had not taken place.

Read it again.
The February Trial in faro was very harsh for Leonor Cipriano. The Judge categorically told her she was a disgrace. She lied knowingly and viciously and as such she would remain more 7 months in prison.

In the first trial, the poor silly had named the 3 PJ inspectors from the paper that Aragão Correia had given her, but had failed to identify them from a line up, that's why only Amaral, the then Director  and the clerk, got convicted, one for omission of report and the other for false declarations (Amarall signed the daily report without acknowledging any torture, that finally is proved has not occurred). Now we know that they couldn't have acted differently since the facts never occurred inside the PJ quarters.

So what?  Are you saying he was obliged to reveal information that he did not want to reveal at that point in time.    It's up to the individual in any situation to decide how to handle  their own business.     If GM felt for whatever reason that it would not be appropriate to publically discuss that particular part of his business in Portugal -  at that particular time, then that was his prerogative.     For all we know he was being guided by advice from his lawyer.

Nobody said Mr McCann was obliged to tell the truth to the media. He did lie, that's all. He did exactly what he had rightly criticized the media for : twisting facts and spreading lies.
