Well I don't believe the McCanns unquestioningly followed advice of 'professionals' and are therefore absolved of any responsibility for the actions they took
In fact, we
know that the McCanns sometimes chose to 'ignore' the advice of professionals
For instance, they chose to focus on Madeleine's coloboma in their awareness campaign
despite being advised not to
... and Gerry chose to answer police questions,
despite being advised not to
It is simply not possible to excuse some of the McCanns behaviour with a dismissive, "they only did it because they were advised to" ( as if they were somehow compelled to follow that advice ) ... not when they cherry-picked which advice to follow and which not to
That 'cherry-picking' indicates that the McCanns were in complete control and merely used the "We were advised to" excuse when their behaviour was, otherwise, inexplicable
