I think the whole story is absolutely strange. Meetings till 2 o'clock, back home late in the night, bury the dog, talking to his wife, etc. - did he even went to bed this night?
I don't know how much time Amaral needs from Olhão to Luz, but surely more than a few minutes (its about 100 KM away). So his morning start at about 8 o'clock. When did he arrive in Luz? He was walking around, and saw Murat several times. Murats translation-job started at 11.30h, so at what time has Murat arrived in Portimao?
For me this episode is quite unreliable.
After Amaral detect Murat, he had a call with his team?
At what time he did this call? Nevertheless Murat made the translation-work?
No, John - i don't believe this. But of course his loyalists will do so..

I think you are wrong to try and take the book as a true literal version of the events and the investigation...that's why amarals in so much trouble...think of it as a story based loosely on the facts

The book is based on his Thesis-of a police investigation and report.

I have never read his book. The contents are irrelevant. It is not even a question of me liking him or not.

My voice in this is Justice, and to support his human right to express his freedom of speech. And to support the Portuguese people who have been vilified and were about to have this right removed -a right  which KATE N GERRY are afforded in the UK. THEY NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT THEIR THEORY!

This is a Justice forum after all!

There is nothing in the book which caused the delay in Maddie's safe return as we have all been witness to!
The circumstantial evidence still points towards a different theory from  the McCanns.

Amaral has fraudulently put words into the mouths of others they never uttered that foster the falsehood that Kate and Gerry know Madeleine is dead, are responsible for her death, have covered up the fact of her death and have launched a fraudulent fund in their daughter's name.

That is why Amaral's thesis is not credible and why he will lose the libel trial.

its a libel trial...you haven't got a clue have you

One can't help wondering why they think The McCanns are asking for compensation.  Compensation for what?  No one asks for compensation without cause.  So it must be Libel or Defamation or both.

I think one thing is for certain given his latest ravings - Amaral is stone cold crazy. He's a paranoid fantasist who makes up all kinds of incredulous nonsense to try and hide the fact that he was rubbish at his job.

yet posters on here regard him as an expert...says a lot about their judgement

At least he never claimed that actually none of the group had ever used a MW listening service.

Of course he has every right to have an opinion, and talk freely in his own country about matters which affect him and his fellow countrymen.

Would that not be for the Court to evaluate?
The court would have asked Mr Grime who would have said: "No evidential or intelligence reliability can be made from this alert unless it can be confirmed with corroborating evidence."  In other words the alerts were of minimal (if you must) value!

Right.  Okay.

The Dogs have no evidential reliability.

Right.  Okay.

The Dogs have no evidential reliability.

And thus, no value (from an evidential point of view, though they still have value as an investigative tool)

An analogy....

You are trying to cross a gorge and the only bridge has collapsed. Across the gorge is a bit of string looped around a pulley.

If you tried to swing across the string it would snap and you would fall. You could not rely on it, it is unreliable.

If you tied thicker and thicker rope to it and gradually pulled it across, you would finally be able to cross. It has value.

There is nothing else on the horizon.

..and of course we have the irony of the dogs being used recently in Portugal for the 'searches'.
