They left via the front door (north side) every day which meant the apartment was secure since the rear patio doors were locked from within.  Out through the north car park possibly meeting another of the tapas group and child on the way. Then south down past the apartment and across the road opposite mini reception.  No mystery!

The GNR dogs were spot on imo.

I've read somewhere on the tracking dogs websites that this what GNR dogs presented would be the freshest route that Madeleine has passed. In other words, her last route.
Why the dogs did not go to the creche but all 4 stopped at the same place next to the lamp and in the parking area.
IMO the police should at least check who usually parked there.

Her last route was from was the tapas bar to 5A not the crèche. You really have no idea if you think a getaway car would be parked opposite the place where they all were. Get Real!
Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

Exactly, as Gerry states (10th May)

They stayed in that place, talking, until 16H45 at which time the twins went to the meal area. At 17h00, as usual, MADELEINE arrived accompanied by the teachers and the other children. After her arrival, MADELEINE ate, [the meal] having ended at 17H30.
------ After 17H30 they went to the apartment, the deponent having entered by the main door, which he did not lock while he was inside the residence. KATE and the children entered by the rear door, after this had been opened from the inside by the deponent.

This is not a route from the apartment.
These dogs are used at the last known place and to establish where the person went from that place. This is their main purpose.

Not necessarily. We are learning now that some of the ex OC workers are new possible suspects and this was announced by PJ.

If the person worked for OC then his-her car parked there would not be for the purpose of escape. It would be parked there because he-she usually parks there.

Would the dogs be able to detect a scent if she was carried from the apartment ?
Would this air scent be stronger than an earlier one on the ground ?
I believe everything. And l believe nothing.
I suspect everyone. And l suspect no one.
I gather the facts, examine the clues... and before   you know it, the case is solved!"

Or maybe not -

OG have been pushed out by the Germans who have reserved all the deck chairs for the foreseeable future

That's the last and the freshest route of Maddie. She didn't walk out of the creche straight to the apartment, she went first to the Tapas, for her high tea. And, from the Tapas, according to Gerry, she went to the apartment. And though the dogs have very keen sense of smell, they can't tell the difference between the route to and the route from, if the source of smell is not around anymore (that means at the end of the route from the given place).

That is a 65 000 dollars question. I've asked this everywhere in the past 7 years and nobody ever was able to answer it.
I've spoken to two dog handlers separately and one said the dogs would still follow her scent as even if carried she'd leave her particles on the ground. The other said they possibly wouldn't. So, it is hard to tell.

When someone is picked up and removed they will leave their scent particles if they are struggling.

If they are asleep little or no particles will shed.

All it takes is one break in the trail for the dogs to lose the scent which is imo wat happened.

This topic is a spin-off from the latest news thread.
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

The dogs can only respond in relation to the item they are given to scent from.
The search & rescue dogs were given an Aztec towel, which may or may not have had Madeleine's scent on it, so the paths they followed may have belonged to any one of a number of individuals who had access to the towel.

So why the McCanns provided the dog handlers an item that might not have Maddie's scent on it?

I'm far from convinced the Portuguese handlers had ground-scenting dogs.

Certainly Harrison said they deployed air-scenting dogs, far the most commonly deployed type of dog generally ...
