Five-year-old ill child taken from hospital by parents.

Sick child removed from hospital thought to be on way to Spain

The health of a five-year-old boy taken from hospital by his parents against medical advice will deteriorate rapidly as the battery on his feeding system is likely to have run out, police said.

A picture posted on Facebook showed Ashya with his mother Naghemeh King.

Ashya King, who has a brain tumour, was taken from Southampton General Hospital and was last seen on a ferry to France.

He was allowed to leave the ward under the supervision of his parents.

It has also been confirmed the family are Jehovah's Witnesses, but there is no suggestion this is why he was taken.

Brett King, 51, and Naghemeh King, 45, removed him from the ward on Thursday.

Assistant Chief Constable Chris Shead of Hampshire Constabulary said Ashya was fed through a battery operated tube and the battery was likely to have expired.

While information had placed them in France, he said: "By now, we cannot be certain they have not moved on".

A spokesman for the hospital, which contacted police six hours after they left, said: "Ashya was a long-term patient who was permitted to leave the ward under the supervision of his parents as part of his ongoing rehabilitation.

A spokesman for the hospital, which contacted police six hours after they left, said: "Ashya was a long-term patient who was permitted to leave the ward under the supervision of his parents as part of his ongoing rehabilitation.

"When the length of time he had been absent became a cause of concern to staff yesterday afternoon they contacted police after a search of the site and attempts to contact the family were unsuccessful."

Ashya King was removed from Southampton General Hospital without ... for the abducted boy and are currently checking hotels and CCTV.

The parents who took their five-year-old boy from a hospital despite him suffering from a brain tumour have been confirmed as followers of the Jehovah's Witness movement.

Ashya King was taken by his parents Brett and Naghemeh King from the Southampton General Hospital on 28 August and taken to Cherbourg in France.

Police launched an urgent appeal to help find the family as Ashya needs constant medical care. Hampshire Police warned that, if the boy is not found, his health will "rapidly deteriorate".

Ashya cannot talk, remains immobile and needs to be fed through a tube. Assistant Chief Constable Chris Shead of Hampshire Constabulary said it is "vital" he is found as soon as possible as his battery-powered feeding system "will run out today" (29 August).

It has now been confirmed that the parents who removed Ashya from hospital are followers of the Jehovah's Witness movement.

Jehovah's Witnesses refuse blood transfusions on religious grounds but can undergo other medical procedures. Ashya recently had an emergency operation on his brain after he was diagnosed with the tumour.

A spokesperson for the Office of Public Information for Jehovah's Witnesses said: "We can confirm that the parents of Ashya King are Jehovah's Witnesses. However, we are not aware of the facts of the case nor the reasons for the family's medical choices, which are personal decisions.

"There is absolutely no indication, as far as we are aware, that their decision is in any way motivated by any religious convictions. Jehovah's Witnesses are encouraged to seek the best medical treatment for themselves and their children."

Police earlier said the family's religion was "irrelevant" and the priority is still finding the child.

Cherbourg Police confirmed they have joined the search for Ashya and are checking hotels and CCTV as part of the investigation.

Polcie are also appealing for people in the UK who have "friends and relatives in France and bordering countries" to assist with the search.

Det Supt Dick Pearson, of Hampshire Constabulary, said: "If we do not locate Ashya today there are serious concerns for his life.

"He is receiving constant medical care within the UK due to recent surgery and ongoing medical issues. Without this specialist 24 hour care, Ashya is at risk of additional health complications which place him at substantial risk.

"He needs to be taken to a medical facility for his urgent health requirements as soon as he is located."

My guess is they have watched his life ebbing away during his stay in hospital & they've had enough of it & want to spend some private time with him, before his likely demise.

I hope I'm wrong & that they are infact taking him to a specialist brain tumour unit on the continent somewhere.

I read that the parents are Jehovah's Witnesses and JW's have religious issues re blood transfusions but I have no idea if this has any relevance to the 'disappearance'.
Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

Poor parents are probably out of their minds with the stress of the situation.

Yes, they've found him. No details, though.

I must admit, when I heard that the parents are JWs, my heart sank. And what will happen to the other (I think) 8 kids, if the parents are arrested for this?

Ashya's father explains reason for taking him out of hospital.

Seems he could get some better treatment for him elsewhere.

Oh Christ. That is a very sick little boy. I very much doubt if there is a better treatment out there, somewhere. It is almost always a grim prognosis for a child's brain tumour. And the treatment is very invasive and damaging.

I agree with spammy on this, it must be dreadful for the parents.  Maybe they just wanted to spend quality time with their son away from the confines of the hospital walls.

No doubt the SS will come snooping now.

What the f..k were Hampshire Police thinking about when they issued an arrest warrant, I can't believe the insensitivity of these idiots.  And now we know that Ashya has been taken from the only people he knows and his parents stuck in a f.....g dungeon below Malaga police station.  UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Earlier this week we heard how Rotherham Police effectively let a bunch of paedophiles and rapists off the hook having abused over 1400 children and now these f.....g idiots in Hampshire do this to loving parents. What the hell is this country coming to?
