Why, because they are obsessed with money?  Or because it is their profession?

 The authors of a new book on the disappearance of Madeleine McCann say the publication is being targeted by a sustained campaign of abuse online.

They claim they have “received confirmation” that “vigilantes” within a Facebook group claiming some 30,000 members are intent on sabotaging the book because it concludes that the family had no role in the disappearance.

Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan, who live in west Waterford, said there has been “a torrent of hate mail” largely on Facebook and Twitter, from people who persecute Madeleine’s parents and “make vile allegations on the basis of no evidence at all”.

The book has also attracted some negative commentary on the Amazon site most of which, the writers contend, “make it clear the review writers had not first read the book”.

The site also carries many positive reviews, while the book has been described as “compelling” by the Daily Telegraph.

The Richard and Judy book club labels it “forensically detailed... incredibly chilling”, while The Sun considers it “explosive”.

Between them the authors have written or co-written eight acclaimed biographies, including works on Marilyn Monroe, Richard Nixon, J Edgar Hoover, and JFK.

Their 2011 collaboration, The Eleventh Day: The Full Story of 9/11 & Osama bin Laden, was shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize for History.

Looking for Madeleine, on which they worked for two years, claims to be “the first independent, in-depth, and definitive account” of the disappearance of the three- year-old from her family’s holiday apartment in the Algarve on May 3, 2007.

The book examines documentation and official statements pertinent to the investigation and analyses events as they unfolded before, during and since Madeleine’s disappearance, now widely presumed to have been an abduction.

The work contains “graphic detail on a series of sex assaults on little British girls prior to Madeleine’s disappearance” and names several paedophile suspects.

The book dismisses any suggestion that the McCanns were in any way responsible for the disappearance, and ask “why many people in the UK — and a majority in Portugal — speculate that the McCanns have something to hide”.

The book has been described as compelling by the Telegraph has it ?  Only in an article penned by.......wait for it.......Summers and Swan themselves  !

So we have no broadsheet reviews at all and a thumbs up from the Richard and Judy Book Club and the Sun. Says it all really !

Given that the McCann case does not generate much, other than polarity of view and visceral outpourings it is understandable that Summers & Swan should blame the actions of McCann doubters for the less than desirable sales and reviews of their book. It is after all a good face saver rather than face the fact that it is due to the book being a poor piece of writing that does not do "what is says on the tin".

An organised and deliberate attack was made on the book .. largely by people who hadn't even read a word of it.  They swanked about what they were going to do before it was on sale.


Reminds me of the Bennett trial. 
They had gone to the trouble to count the seats and arrange to fill them with Ant1s, so that no Pr0 could get a seat.  Totally against the principle of the Court being filled with a range of interested parties

A leading Ant1 told me how they had arranged it beforehand !  And the Court was full on both days ... seats filled by Ant1 bums.


Just who is behind all this organisation ?  Someone / some Organisation that is mighty powerful, who has loads to lose if the truth comes out about what happened to Madeleine ... and who is keeping her now.



Seems, The Law will have to be changed if seedy venal and vindictive prats are deliberately setting out to destroy the work of serious Authors.  These Authors were trying to make an honest penny to pay their mortgages and feed their families.


That is an electronic Criminal Act imo.  If these couple had made, say a sculpture and someone had destroyed / damaged that, they would be jailed.

Well my dear I have read it and in my opinion it does little other than regurgitate that which was already in the public domain. Again in my opinion it is not well written and does not live up to the pre release hype.
Yes I am not a Pulitzer prize nominee and were that a criteria for being critical then by the same logic one would need to be a bird (or monotreme) to know an egg is bad. Just saying like before you "do an Alfred" on me.
Take away any concerted anything and the book remains coffee table decoration.
Did no one tell you that to shout rubbish is ill mannered ?
