You appear to have completely missed the point Stephen. The subject matter is the investigation into the on-line vicious hate campaign currently being conducted against the McCanns by some 'doubters'.
If you can supply any evidence of sustained hate campaigns of the same proportions against other individuals in this case - i.e. including death threats, urging the use of torture - and involving the victims' children in those campaigns - etc etc. - which are presently being conducted by 'supporters' - then I would be interested to see it.
IMO you are trying to make comparisons where there are none to be made.
Stephen imo is trying to defend the indefensible and it is reflecting badly on him.
I think the amount of time it has taken for the campaign of abuse directed at the McCann family and anyone associated with them is a blot on British justice because the authorities have allowed it to go on for so long.
It is outrageous that the police have not already taken action, as they have done on the abuse directed at parents of other missing or murdered children, and nipped this in the bud a long time ago.
Organised hate campaigns lasting for over seven years are an affront to all that is decent.
I was particularly distressed that no action was taken against those who considered it fair game to target the twins during the libel trial by posting details of their journeys to school etc; or on-line publishing of photographs which identified the twins taken during a private visit to the Commonwealth Games.
These children are nine years old for goodness sake!
Lines have been crossed as far as this family are concerned and police action is long overdue.
