You don`t really know that it was "the consequences of the removal of the cloak of anonymity" which she couldn`t cope with.

We actually don`t know all that was said to her.

As regards cloaks of anonymity.............Do you think the dossier compilers could cope with its removal in similar circumstances?

some of the dossier names are known........

in my opinion  yes     there is a  choice to read things or  not   no one forces anyone to read anything

I presume you apply that to Mrs. Leyland - who according to some was pushed over the edge by reading tweets which followed the Sky programme.   If you think that is true  (which I don't)  - then as you say - no-one forced her to read them.
The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

Of course I dont really know - nobody does, and that will probably remain the case.

But the fact is that she was clearly an active participant, and one assumes knew what she was doing.

I have no idea whether the dossier compilers could "cope with its removal in similar circumstances?".  But it is a possibility for all of us.  I assume they would be prepared to stand behind anything they have said or done.

Firstly, what disgust, incredulity and condemnation have you actually expressed concerning the tweets I posted up yesterday?  None, that's what.

Secondly, how does highlighting these tweets pre-empt a police investigation exactly?  Do you know for sure that the police are even aware of these particular tweets?  Why shouldn't I or anyone else including Sky News challenge the depravity on display in such a twitter feed?  For fear that a poor little  troll might self-harm?  Is that what you're saying?  That one must never expose anyone suspected of any sort of criminal or anti-social behaviour for fear that they may take their own lives?  Well sorry, but if you go out of your way to solicit thousands of followers on twitter and then tweet tens of thousands of deranged tweets about waterboarding the McCanns (amongst other things) then you shouldn't be especially surprised if the press and / or police eventually start taking an interest in you and the sort of person you might be.

The likelihood is the police will do nothing about this particular individual so should we as a civilised society simply accept that such abuse goes on and learn to live with it, or should we shine a light on it, so that it makes those perpetrators feel as uncomfortable as their unfortunate targets?

And the insane hypocrisy on show here is that many "sceptics" have spent a considerable amount of time and effort desperately trying to persuade the media and authors such as S & S to do critically investigative pieces on the McCanns, and then berate these same journalists when they don't mention (for example) the Gaspar statements.

Good old Alf. "The sort of person you might be". Doing the very thing he is criticising the "trolls" for.

*sighs*           Give me strength, Alfred!

I haven`t expressed disgust, incredulity and condemnation at your tweet examples NOR the ones from the other side!

I`m disgusted and incredulous at the whole lot of them!

Tit for Tat deflects from the issue .

The act of "Highlighting the tweets" as you put it, is not the principle behind my points surrounding the unauthorised doorstepping of a target by the press,  waving a dossier compiled by supporters of the family,  whilst the same dossier was already in the hands of the police, with alleged abusers already under investigation by them .

Waxing hysterical at "sceptics" isn`t going to take that sticky issue away.......and most of your rant is best ignored........

Ignore away, if it makes things easier for you to deal with, I don't mind.  Your post is a bit confusing tbh.  I don't think the press needs permission from any authority to doorstep anyone, but if you think they should be controlled by law then perhaps you should join the Hacked Off campaign, if you're not already a supporter.

I'm a member of the Hacked Off campaign and I agree there should be stronger laws to protect the innocent public from aggressive reporters like we have seen from Sky recently.

Fair enough.  The irony is that many McCann "sceptics" who are now up in arms about Sky's behaviour were also virulently opposed to Hacked Off because of Gerry McCann's involvement.

Is there any difference between what Sky News did to Brenda and how investigators doorstep criminals/fraudsters on programmes like Watchdog & Rogue Traders (where matters have not necessarily been reported to the police) ?

What crime had this lady been charged with exactly ?

..and for the umpteenth time, sky news claimed she was being investigated by the police, which she wasn't.

This pic was recently tweeted by our sister site on Twitter as an example of aggressive reporting.  This is technically an assault but who cares?

Sky reporter Lisa Holland manhandles Brett King whose son Ashya is currently having cancer treatment.

Like the people being investigated on the programmes I mentioned - not charged at the time. However, Leics police had been sent a dossier of names & I have yet to see a statement from them confirming that they have investigated the complaint & no charges will be forthcoming against anyone.
If Sky were also sent a copy of the dossier - so what? Is that illegal?
