There have already been prosecutions for twitter offences under existing laws............If your "collated, submitted evidence" was already in the public domain for all to see anyway, surely the police have the expertise to decide who to track and investigate for themselves?
..........and how do you justify selecting a target yourselves and confronting her via the media instead of leaving it to the authorities........as you recommend yourself in the emboldened sentence?
I am assuming that the police do not have the resources to spend time monitoring Twitter and FB. And they shouldn't have to IMO - that 's the responsibilty of the site owners. If they had closed BL's accounts as a result of complaints - then what happened may well have NOT happened.
When I first joined AOL Message Boards they were properly monitored. The rule was 'attack the post and not the poster'. Three breaches of that rule - and you lost your AOL account.
When they decided to stop paying the moderators and removed them - 'trolls' started creeping in. The problem got worse and worse. People left in droves. Rather than spend money on sorting it out AOL simply closed down all their message boards.
That's not the way to go IMO. Effective 'moderating' is the answer IMO. And if that existed there would be no need for concerned members of the public to bring attention to the lawbreaking which is largely being ignored at the moment on Twitter and FB.
All IMHO
(must go out now)
