Breaching the data protection act.

Illegally obtaining peoples phone numbers and addresses......

....and of course the 'brave' people who did this have tried to hide their identities.

Does that include Joana Morais posting Sweepyface's Twitter data comment record online for all to see?

Did that include her telephone number and address ?

If so, were the details already 'on-line' ?

Perverting the course of justice? If you report something to the police then involve the media in vigilanteeism, then it is a possibility.

Almost everyone's address is online and can be obtained either free or by payment. Can a computer geek access a twitter a/c from the data Joana posted? More importantly, how did she obtain the record of someone deceased?

I have no idea.

Then I'm not interested in finding peoples personal details.

As far as I am concerned, that is part of trolling behaviour.

Indeed it is. There is absolutely no reason to know the true identity of anyone on line.

Indeed.

The most dangerous part of knowing someone's I.D. is that it can lead to criminal behaviour in a wide variety of fields.

Though as Misty said peoples' details can be bought....

Now there's also another question to ask.

Now as the McCann's handed the dossier to the police, what part, if any, did they have in compiling it ?

That would hardly be surprising.

I have noticed some posters absent since the dossier emerged.  %£&)**# %£&)**# %£&)**#

Does that apply in ALL circumstances?

Where do you draw the line JP ?

As far as I'm concerned it does. If I had to report an internet poster to the police, they could sort out identity.

So anonymity does not apply under all circunstances.

OK - lets look at a slightly more difficult one.   Suppose someone libelled you online.  Accused you of some criminal act.  Would you be entitled to obtain their details?
