I think you may find that free speech comes with responsibilities.
Indeed it does. But both sides in this seem have miserable wretches of humanity at the extreme edges who are prepared to post anything nasty.
The significant thing is that McCann supporters, even those who purport to be intelligent, can never quite bring themselves to be critical of the more extreme in their own camp. Preferring to be mealy mouthed and come up with pseudo intellectual excuses for their bad behaviour;  "well he did it first Miss" seeming to be level of intellect used as justification.

In the Huffington Post
Interesting I feel!

Dr Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, professor of business psychology at University College London, said that trolling and abuse online had now become so commonplace that it was hard to find common distinguishing features.

"The profile of an internet troll has nothing to do with class, or socio-economic or educational variable. It's more psychological," he said. "One of the characteristics of people who spend of lot of time doing things like this is that they don't seem to have the same ability to do this in the real world. They are often compensating for a lower assertiveness or dominance in the real world, they are a little bit more repressed."

Well I am glad I average only about four posts a day or I would really worry!  8(>((

Facebook campaign to get Sky reporter who exposed Maddie McCann troll sacked - after she is found dead in hotel room

MailOnline
6 October 2014

A social media campaign has been launched calling for the sacking of Sky News reporter Martin Brunt, who tracked down and interviewed a woman who allegedly trolled the McCann family - and then killed herself a few days later.

Brenda Leyland, 63, died at a Marriott hotel on Saturday around 15 miles from her immaculately kept village home in Leicestershire. Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

A statement on the 'Sack Martin Brunt' Facebook page, set up yesterday, said: 'Martin Brunt should be sacked. RIP Brenda Leyland.' So far 1,265 people have liked the page.

As well as messages of sympathy and support, there have also been a number of posts criticising the McCann family, whose daughter Maddie went missing on holiday in Portugal in 2007.

Facebook group urges Sky reporter’s sacking after death of alleged troll

A Facebook campaign is calling for Sky News reporter Martin Brunt to be sacked following the death of a woman the broadcaster alleged to be one of the internet trolls abusing the McCann family.

Sky News has a rigorous set of internal guidelines for its reporters but insiders say each story is handled on a case-by-case basis. Although she appeared on camera, Leyland was not named and registration plates on nearby cars were pixellated.

During the report, Brunt and his team took extra precautions such as not naming the village where Leyland lived and Brunt referred to her only by her Twitter name, @sweepyface. However, she was subsequently named in newspaper reports.

The Guardian understands the story was looked at closely by Sky’s lawyers before it was broadcast and Sky is confident that proper procedures had been followed. The broadcaster is reviewing in the situtation in the wake of Leyland’s death. Sky News’ guidelines state: “Any grounds for an investigation that involves significant intrusion into any individual’s privacy must be very strong. Before we start out we must be certain that any such intrusion is outweighed by the seriousness of the story and the amount of public good that will be delivered by its publication and/or broadcast.”

The detailed guidelines also say: “People who are the subject of reports should not be treated unfairly. Where wrongdoing is alleged, they should be offered an opportunity to respond.

“Where there may be doubt or uncertainty over a legal issue – in the first instance check with the Head of Home News or Head of International News, as appropriate. Remember: if in doubt, do not proceed, broadcast or publish. Always refer upwards.”

Brunt – who has himself become the subject of online abuse –- is said to be upset by Leyland’s death but has not yet made any comment.

Sky News is not expected to comment further beyond a statement that said: “We were saddened to hear of the death of Brenda Leyland. It would be inappropriate to speculate or comment further at this time.”

I've already posted link of the mandatory editorial guidelines which IMO make it very clear that all proposed intrusions involving doorstepping are always checked out and pre-approved by people much higher up in the referral chain than Mr Brunt.

This video is in response to the death of Brenda Leyland aka Sweepyface. Despite media demonisation, Brenda was not a troll. She merely didn't believe the abduction theory surrounding Madeleine McCann. Neither do I. Brenda's name, like mine, was part of a McCann dossier handed to Metropolitan Police. I have today invited the police to interview me. This issue is about a number of things, including censorship, and we must fight it. RIP Sweepyface. I apologise for the quality but recorded it on tablet to get out quickly.

Having just watched the video, it is clear the speaker feels the public's right to answers about the McCanns & the death of Brenda are more important than the ongoing investigation into Madeleine's disappearance.
Has no-one told her that the "official" files are incomplete?

I find Sonia Poulton's stance stupid. The Scotland Yard is currently working on Madeleine McCanns case.
Any case that is currently active should not have media comments on it. Why doesn't she simply wait for the investigation to conclude?
Regarding her comments of Madeleine's parents being 'neglectful' perhaps she should campaign not for children to be 24 hours supervised. I wasn't supervised. My parents weren't supervised. Today's children are supervised because of the modern dangers around them. So dear Sonia, please campaign for these modern dangers around children to be removed, for people who target children in our modern times to be legally  punished in the most harsh way possible so our children can again freely play on the streets as they could 20 years ago and stay home alone as I was able to 30 years ago.

Regarding poor Brenda.. she spent days and nights tweeting about the McCanns, even on the New Years Eve, if Sonia can identify with this then I suggest she should see a doctor.

If you gathered together all the main points of the case and listed them, then when out into the streets and asked 100 people if they knew about them I can guarantee you that the vast majority of no clue as to what is in the files.

NOT one of my immediate family or friends, or their friends even knew about the dogs findings. No one knew the child had spoken to their mother about being left crying and so many other points.  BUT I BET you they know all about that nasty man Mr Amaral.....

The people in the streets only read the red top newspapers who just castigate the PJ, creepy men and tractor man etc.

They only believe what they read, the majority of them actually have no interest in the case only a certain voyeurism into the case, when the headlines like gypsies took her, etc are plastered everywhere.

No the truth has not been told about what even ACTUALLY happened.......so i can understand where these supporters are coming from.

Its like I have said abuse goes both ways. Brenda Leyland is entitled to say what she likes as long as she isnt openly threatening or abusing the McCanns personally. (I dont necessarily agree with all this tweeting rubbish, and calling out the McCanns etc it serves no purpose in finding the child).

However, those trolls who were following Brenda Leyland need to watch their backs also, as I believe one in particular has been reported to the police.

Joan Morais on Google:

some tweets made by someone calling themselves Rainne (@dirndllass) sent to Brenda that are the most disgusting I have ever seen. I have forwarded them to the Met and drawn attention to them in as many places as I can. They clearly t
hreaten Brenda in the most appalling way and it would not surprise me if they had something to do with her demise. This person also needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

It doesnt take rocket science to find this women, this is on her tweet shows the type of person she is...

https://twitter.com/dirndllass

HER TOP TWEET.....@sweepyface....GOOD RIDDENCE TO BAD RUBBISH....

If this is the type of person who is supporting the McCanns god help them is all I can say.

This women was so traumatised by some of these threats she HANGED HERSELF....Brenda Leyland. HANGED HERSELF....

Shame on people who would support tweeting this way about a women has died in horrible circumstances....no one deserved that.

I absolutely agree that the tweets are utterly vile, and totally unacceptable in any context.

Why do you think someone from "across the pond" would insert themsleves in this way?

How could she tweet the mccanns, if they had no twitter accounts ?
