All this source has apparently said is:

“This dragging of heels by police in Portugal can’t have helped the investigation.”

Gosh, big reveal!  I could have been the source!!

From Mirror article above The first appeal was made by officers working on Operation Grange in July 2013.
Old news again.

To be honest, I see this whole charade petering out very soon. I just cannot see them spending much more money on an investigation which is basically going round in ever increasing circles.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.

I agree, they should never have got involved in the first place, so much wrong with our own judicial system that needs sorting. Arnt they using 34 police workers to troll through the McCann files, when other cases are still not solved...?

I think it is pretty disgusting that the PJ are accused of dragging their heels over the search for Madeleine, when didnt they have to wait weeks for information at the beginning from crime labs etc in the UK and mobile phone information or am I dreaming all that? Also didnt the Tapas refuse to come back and do a reconstruction which could have solved the case, or am I dreaming that?

Mind you the article is the Sunday Mirror nuff said...........

Being mindful of course that the Chief Constable of Leicestershire Constabulary and his merry men were less than forthcoming when it came to providing information about persons of interest requested by the Portuguese police back in 2007.

The shoe would appear to be on the other foot these days.

I'm not sure...even if the Tapas had agreed to return ..agree to be beaten up and then give voluntary confessions..... I think the case would still be stuck in the Portuguese judicial system.

'agree to be beaten up'

If the Met had never got involved in the first place then the likelihood of the case ever being solved would have been even lower than it is now.  I know this would suit some people but I for one am very glad that the decision was made not to give up on Madeleine.

Now that's a classic.

If you believe a reconstruction was so important that it could have actually solved the case -  then surely that highlights the incompetence of the original PJ team IYO - for not immediately carrying out such a crucial and obvious 'diligence' as a matter of urgency at the time ?

As I recall a few Home Secretaries, Theresa may included, and a few heads of The Met did not wish to become involved. That changed with "call me Dave".

Perhaps they felt that paying untold millions of pounds of taxpayers money to investigate a crime that not matter what they found they were never going to be able to prosecute anyone for was not the best way to spend their limited resources ?

Me too - and even if what happened to Madeleine isn't discovered, then at least her family will know that the case has been properly and thoroughly investigated as is humanly possible - and they won't have to spend the rest of their lives wondering if something crucial had been missed during the first investigation.

Also the whole exercise will have been extremely informative IMO from the POV of both police forces on what is 'best practice' when dealing with such cases in the future.

Also SY's increased expertise/knowledge/experience as a result of this case would probably be very helpful if the Ben Needham case is re-examined in the same way.    I do hope that happens, whatever the cost.

You have a wonderful imagination. You should give up being a doctor/consultant/super scientist of the year or whatever suits your argument at the time and become author of whodunnits and the like. @)(++(*

Lower than it is now? Oh you have information no one else has?

I was thinking IF the PJ could have solved the case- they would have. However, situation being as it was, the investigation was shelved until NEW EVIDENCE was available, and there was a good chance of conviction. Anyone can guess or theorize what may have happened- someone did and ended up in court!

As I understand none was forthcoming, it seemed stale - mate.

NSY Are going over thousands of documents- not because they KNOW who did it, or know what happened to Madeleine, they are doing it..because...

Now I just wonder how it makes other feel about both investigations

1. PJ dragging heels-  they have nothing to go forward with- no where near having enough evidence to convict someone- they have limited budget.

Seems reasonable to me to admit to not being able to bring anyone to account for MADDIES DISAPEARANCE and to shelve the case.

2. NYS Spending millions to come up with the same result?

Well, yes some think the lower the chance of finding out nothing is better than fat chance of finding out nothing.

Oh what we could have done with that money...
