It is like Christmas; it comes round once a year.
Late filing penalties are automatic with virtually no grounds for appeal.

Filing of financial statements have been consistently late see link.

So it does what a shame!. It obviously is time dependent.
For anyone interested try Companies House webcheck you should find a page with yellow background and two free text boxes to enter company name or registration number. Fill in one as appropriate click search, a list will appear with searched for company high lighted, usually at the top of the page, then click on registration number in the list and the company details will appear. Somewhere on the page is a "buy documents" button. Click on it to bring up a list of filings made and dates registered etc.
The beauty of this is that what is shown is true and no flim flamming by ill informed jokers of any flavour will change it. Good innit.

It is not everyone's business per se but certain information must be available to the public at large and filed by specific dates. Failure to file is actually a criminal offence but the Registrar is unlikely to take action unless he feels something is untoward or that you are taking the piss. One interesting power he [the Registrar] has is to dissolve a company if he believes it has ceased to trade. Now work out what happens to the bank accounts?
That's it! nothing is implied other than what is said.

Clicking on the number brings up a whole bunch of different companies that AREN'T the Madeleine Fund, it doesn't seem to be working properly, however I'm interested to know what the column with letters in it denotes.  What does L mean?

On the list that comes up the company you are searching for should have the line highlighted.
The column to which you refer gives the status of the company reporting by exception ie a blank means it is trading or dormant, D means dissolved. L means in liquidation. It does actually tell you in the extreme right hand column !
It is on the company details page where due filings are recorded. Also on this page is the "Order Guff" link.

Thanks, it works this morning but didn't last night for some inexplicable reason, maybe because I was using an iPad. I shan't be ordering guff as I know there are others more obsessed than I who will be keen to do so and spill whatever beans they deem worth spilling on here or elsewhere.

Do you have a list of what charities the £55000 went to and how much was donated to each Benice ?

Excerpt from a press release from Carter Ruck:-

"The Sunday Times has agreed to pay Kate and Gerry McCann £55,000 in libel damages (all of which they will donate to two charities - Missing People and the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust) ''

Sorry - I haven't been able to find out how much was donated to each charity.
The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

Money was pouring in from day one, much of it donated to help The McCanns stay in Portugal.  Something had to be done with it, which is why The Fund was started.
I very much doubt that any of this money paid for the extended family to visit in early days, although I don't know about later.

Kate claims in her book that Gerry was still being paid at the time they started using the fund to pay their mortgage. Kate's practice also agreed to pay her a month's salary after the disappearance and Mark Warner were giving them several apartments rent free for certainly the first few months.

So in the first months they had two wages coming in and free rent. So why did they need to 'borrow' from the fund to pay their mortgage quiet so early in the case ?

It is hard to envisage how a limited company can be past it's sell by date.
Posters of all flavours might do well to look at "The Fund" for what it really is and not what they perceive it to be.
It is a trading company, private limited by guarantee ie it does not have shareholders but has members; we are not privy to the members lists and neither is Companies House unless the Registrar makes a flying visit to check mandatory paperwork i.e. among other things an up to date register of members.
"The Fund" is a "legal person" which can exist beyond the McCanns.
The money in "The Fund" belongs to the legal person it is.
Money from "The Fund" may be used at the discretion of the directors to provide financial support to Madeleine's family. At least that is what the directors reports and the web site say.
The directors may change the Company Objects and Articles of Association if they wish. Indeed they did so in December 2011.
It is illegal to act outside the Company Objects.
Unless a poster has handed over coin of the realm to Companies House and has copies of the current Articles of Association and Company Objects they have can no idea of the content. Also unless a poster has had the opportunity to examine the company day book equally they will be clueless where the money came from or went to as that amount of detail is not required to be filed at Companies House. So hearsay will reign no doubt.

So what can happen to it ["The Fund"]?
It can continue to trade.
It can be dissolved by the directors.
It can be put into liquidation by creditors.
It can be struck off by The Registrar.
It can become dormant ie it exists but does not trade.
My money is on the last one (eventually).
It would appear that from incorporation in May 2007 until the last made up accounts march 2013 the income was £3.87MM and expenditure £3.43MM.
The End (thankfully)  8(>((
