It would have no bearing on this case, where the money came from, Faith, but if he claimed legal aid when he had no entitlement, would it not be fraudulent and therefore another case?

Just to remind you that the McCanns and Isabel Duarte filed a complaint against Gonçalo Amaral claiming that his request for legal aid was fraudulent. Needless to say, it was thrown out by the judge. BTW, asking for legal aid isn't fraudulent in itself, especially if your assets are frozen. Millionaires sometimes ask for legal aid.

Well, hey!  If the McCanns character can be assessed and found wanting because the Fund accounts got filed late then why not permit the same treatment of ol' Uncle Ammy, eh?   Same sort of argument, innit.

I don't see the point of your remark in the light of my post. Perhaps you will be kind enough to elucidate?
It seems on the face of it to be a feeble attempt at a body swerve Alf.

Body swerve what, exactly?  I've only just entered this conversation.  I'm sure you're intelligent enough to work out what my point was, or maybe I overestimated you?

It would seem you have done all of that and more, so:
From the top very, very slowly in words of not more than two syllables lay it all out for me. Preferably in sentences containing a finite verb otherwise I will have assumptions and I am not smart enough for that.

Thank you that bit of information, Montclair. I was not aware of that incident.

False declarations to obtain Legal aid, are against the law though, surely?

Any application for Legal Aid involves filling in a form.  It is an offence to tell lies on that form.  The Form probably states this, although i am not absolutely sure about that.
The application can only be refused after the form has been submitted.

It was Isabel Duarte that made the complaint, to the police, and rightly so.

Day 3: Lisbon, Portugal, at the McCanns’ v Amaral libel trial”

3:01: Ms Duarte also said she has made an official complaint to the police about Mr Amaral, alleging that he has abused the legal aid system.

Amaral claimed he had no assets, when he had a house, in his name. Seems that house was not part of the frozen assets. I believe this house was repossessed at a later date

Of course asking for legal aid is not fraudlent in itself.  Making a false declaraion in order to obtain legal aid, however, would be.

Remind me - did Amaral get legal aid?

No and neither was he prosecuted for making a false declaration.

You would have thought Duarte would have better ways to spend her time than trying to have Amaral charged with a criminal offence. It's as if her clients aren't sure of a win so they are throwing everything at him in the vain hope something, anything will stick

Why was his application for legal aid turned down, anyone know?

Isabel Duarte is an Officer of The Law.  She has a duty to report a crime.

It seems something has stuck and we will have confirmation soon hopefully

Seems she wasted her time then.
