I'm intrigued why the destruction of evidence in the form of the clothing worn was considered necessary.

£5%4%   Erm, Any idea what that could indicate?   £4%4%

I really have no idea, Sadie.  Maybe the clothing he was wearing made him too recognisable either to a witness or on CCTV?

It seems to have been the modus operandi used to set up Joseph Cardinal which no doubt the present criminal prosecution will address.

I think there are indeed serious questions to be asked about the mystery money deposited in the bank account of one of the first officers who attended the scene of Madeleine's disappearance on the 3rd May.
The people who question everything seem to miss this one for some reason.

How does Christopher Pereira tried to incriminate Joseph Cardinal
Published em 27 nov 2014  s 00:05

**snip
Paulo Pereira Cristovao was meticulous in trying to blame the assistant referee Jose Cardinal false practices of corruption. According to the judgment of the Justice Council of the Portuguese Football Federation, former leader of Sporting was thoroughly investigated and the final conclusion did not leave room for doubt: it was the sole author of the plan.

It started with the creation of a database of all referees. The first step was to ask the Eurico Gomes, Sporting SAD employee, a list of all the referees and assistants qualified to direct League matches; later, by an employee of the Tax Authority married to a friend, had access to additional information such as number of taxpayer income, NIB, movable and immovable property and identification of the spouse of all referees and assistants.

Being in possession of such privileged information, Paulo Pereira Cristóvão set up a scheme to Joseph Cardinal not apitasse the game Marítimo-Sporting, the quarter finals of the Cup of Portugal, held at December 16, 2011, because there were not forgotten in a draw home with Olhanense, on the opening day, marked by a possible penalty not marked in favor of the lions, and the defeat in the final of the League Cup with a controversial penalty was given to Pedro Silva. The strategy would be to deposit money into the account assistant referee to criminalize corruption, then asking 1236 euros to the Department of Heritage and Marketing Alvalade club.

Then instructed Rui Martins, his former employee, to travel to Funchal, which would carry out a deposit of two thousand euros in Joseph Cardinal account. Barely realized the deposit, Joseph Cardinal asked, however, excuse the Maritime-Sporting game, opting to donate that amount to the Cerebral Palsy Association of Porto.

The next day, Christopher Pereira waited president Godinho Lopes to hand him an envelope with the following message: "Sir Dr Godinho Lopes, you are serious and deserve the information I'm tired of depriving a man who lives in the rot and corruption.. See an example of unspoiled team arbitration that will be at the Maritime game. I think the rest has the same table. It does not matter who I am and only care that you help clean this garbage of society. Do what you want with this evidence that came to me. " Shortly after, Fernando Gomes, the president of the FPF was briefed by Chairman of Sporting.

The last step of Pereira Cristovao was call Peter Fonseca, the Coordinator of the Unit for Combating Corruption of the Judicial Police, to give account envelope and its contents, while Fernando Gomes remitted the envelope received by Godinho Lopes for Police Judiciary and the Attorney General's Office.

No, I thnk the GNR guy like any other member of the public had money into his account, if he did that is, from a totally normal transaction like a house sale or an inheritance and some sought to use that as some kind if evidence or proof that the portuguese police had kidnapped Madeleine....totally bonkers IMO

IIRC, Mercury, This chap denied ever depositing it.
I think there was some confusion, because it was someone else with same name.
I can't check that now....It's too late, but I think that was the case.

Maddie cop took £100k

ONE of the first officers at the scene the night Madeleine McCann disappeared had £100,000 deposited in bank accounts soon after, it was claimed.

By Tom Worden / Published 22nd June 2009

The policeman is being investigated by anti-corruption detectives, Portuguese TV station TVI reported.

National Republican Guard (GNR) officers searched the apartment and area around the McCanns’ holiday flat in Praia da Luz before the investigation was taken over by the Judicial Police.

The GNR was later criticised for destroying potential clues by trampling through the crime scene, contaminating the area.

The television station, which did not name the corporal under investigation, said several payments were made into two accounts in the officer’s name “shortly after Maddie’s disappearance”.

The TV channel said the policeman denied knowing anything about the money and suggested his name may have been used without his know-ledge to open the accounts.

Police sources said he is known as an honest officer.

Costa Lima, spokesman for the GNR, told newspaper 24 Horas: “We have not opened any investigation into any officer involved in the Maddie case, nor do we have knowledge of any other body investigating anyone.”

Madeleine, now six, disappeared while on a family holiday on the Algarve.

Her parents Gerry and Kate, both 41, doctors from Rothley, Leics, have launched a campaign to find her.

Well, Innocent Until Proven Guilty, as they say in France.  Not so sure about Portugal, but there you go.  But as far as I have seen, there hasn't been that much Media Coverage of this, which only makes me wonder why.  So thanks for that, Misty.
