Had he not been removed from the case by the time he wrote the book?
He was given an OBE/DCM in September 2007 I believe, but it's fun to forget about that.

Yes, but WHY was it upheld?

We won't know until we read the court document(s).

John, with respect it is YOU who hasn't grasped this.  If the book was deemed a fair and accurate account of events then in what universe would the author be ordered to pay half a million euros to the subject for writing it?

Which part of emotional stress and damages don't you yet comprehend.  The judge made it crystal clear to Gerry McCann whilst he was on the stand.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.

So you're telling me that if I write a completely accurate and truthful book about you and it upsets you that I could end up paying you half a million euros for upsetting you?  Is that how it works?

Wait til the full judgment is available then you will know the full SP straight from the horses mouth as it were. You could of course play guessing games in the meantime, but in the immortal words of Sam Goldwyn "include me out".

Do you have a cite for that, John?

Why would The Judge have thought that The McCanns suffered anxiety and trauma if they were guilty?

Oh, I know.  They are guilty and were dead worried about being arrested.  Amaral had no right to do that to them.  No?

I have read that the McCanns gave been ordered to pay 58.30% of the costs.

Assuming that is correct you can see how the system is being worked.

I'm not interested in guessing but I am curious to know why "sceptics" believe that you can get half a million euros in Portugal cos someone wrote something truthful and accurate about you that then upset you.

You sound so bitter Faithlilly.  Have you finished washing through Smiffy's underwear yet?

Don't you agree though that when their daughter is still missing such triumphalism over the award of money is a tad crass ?

Why did you delete my perfectly reasonable reply to your post in which you re-wrote a victory for the McCanns as a failure?  As I pointed out their award is unprecedented in Portuguese legal history we have been led to believe so how, by any stretch, is this result a failure for the McCanns?  Do you actually think that Amaral looks upon this result as a failure for them?

Amaral will undoubtedly see this as a partial defeat in a lower court with all yet to be decided in the Supreme Court.

You will have to remain curious. I am not that sort of sceptic. Like Christians and Muslims "sceptics" come in all makes and shapes  8(0(*

I think you're incredibly crass.  The McCanns have made it very clear that the award of the money is not the reason for their happiness.  Of course you are tainted by your hatred so refuse to see that. Never mind.

AFAIK, none of the lawyers have yet been officially notified of the "verdict".
