I thought all that happened this week was that the judge booted out 60% of the McCanns claim and found in their favour in 40% and awarded damages for "distress" accordingly, with the defendants having the right of appeal. The decision was on a point of law as the judge interpreted it. I don't recall the case being anything to do with the McCanns innocence or guilt, that was outwith the terms of the writ being judged.

you make the same mistake as angelo...this is what I posted..

the good thing is that all the papers are promoting the McCanns as being cleared...that's what the general public are reading

that is an absolute fact...the papers have promoted the mccanns as being cleared...and that's what the public read

I think you have missed the point of and the significance of the ruling of the Portuguese Court as far as the incredibility of Goncalo Amaral's assertions are concerned.

The highly experienced professional people who have gone through all the evidence in Madeleine McCann's case with a fine tooth comb ... have discounted his changing theories entirely (SY ~ PJ).
They have followed the evidence.

The Portuguese Court has listened to the separate evidence of allegations levelled against them and has found that Madeleine's parents have been defamed.

This is worldwide news ... and it has exonerated her parents from the unfounded allegations of culpability ... now all that remains is concentrating fully on what happened to Madeleine McCann.
Which is all that her parents have been trying to achieve since she vanished almost eight years ago.

So a bitter sweet victory for them ... but a victory.

Announcing their new investigation last month, police in the country said a review team had been working since March 2011 to look back through information from the original investigation.
They said this had uncovered potential new lines of inquiry,
which were separate from those being followed by the Met.

I beg to differ Brie.  The honourable judge made no reference to defamation or libel in her extensive report so those are merely your words.  To prove someone has been defamed requires evidence to back it up and as you very well know the judge specifically ruled out all references to the criminal case.

The McCann parents received a bundle of cash to compensate them for damages, nothing more and nothing less.

here you are..from the telegraph this week...

The McCanns - once named arguidos, or formal suspects - were finally cleared in July 2008, when the Portuguese police investigation was shelved for lack of evidence.

I never said they had been cleared...I said that's what the papers are promoting...bless

I don't see that it matters in the real world. The judge ruled on a point of law as she interpreted it. What the PJ and The Met were doing at the time would have been irrelevant. I know the Google translate thing of the bootleg court document comes up like a cross between Pitcairn English and Pidgin but it is just about possible to work out what is going on. Perhaps you should give it a whirl.

You made the mistake of presuming that my free standing post was directed at you or one of your posts.
There's silly.

What you failed to point out as per usual is that they haven't been cleared because the crime if any is still unknown.  The British press will print any old garbage as long as it fills their own coffers.

There's evidence you say?

Those with long memories know that's exactly what was said during the PR struggle in 2007.

Oh I have whirled and birled with a vengeance and I think you underestimate the cognitive abilities of people who are aware of current developments which exist only because of missing the links back in 2007.

I would suggest the learned Judge comes into that category.  Reading of the transcripts throughout the latest round in court showed a very 'no-nonsense' lady indeed ... if an appeal is based on some point of law missed by her ... I think they will have a hard search indeed.
IMO appeal or no ... this ruling will stand.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

I never claimed they have been cleared as we have been over that point a million times...what's important is that the press are promoting them as cleared and most of the public will believe what they read

Has this any relevance to what I posted?
Judging by your syntax it is merely a verbose body swerve.

There is a great overestimation of the number of people who actually give a monkey's about this case.

Is that the basis of your appeal?  ?>)()< Good luck with it.

Even if untrue?

I continue to be amazed by what is believed ... and the truth is no guarantee of protection.

The fact remains that the McCanns have never been charged with an offence so the book should never have been written in the form it was, if it should have been written at all.

Now that the ruling is in it should certainly cause people with with any moral compass at all to think carefully about their internet activities if these involve promoting opinions which should never have been written in the first place.
