IMO, one has to be very naive to entrust their children to a stranger in a locked private place with no-one coming back for X hours.

Especially to a stranger who has chosen a job which ensures s/he is near children

As I have said before, the vast majority of people chosing to work with children are normal kind and caring people.

However jobs with children are often chosen by paedophiles. Thank goodness they are but a tiny minority.

Red bit: How do you know that?
Blue bit: Very true and in my younger day we had the expression "never turn your back on a cubmaster". We were also pretty clued up who had a funny uncle or aunt.
Maroon bit: But not a minority accpording to you.  Your theory is that every baby sitter potentially is a paedophile and a danger.

Rare pieces of interview of Kate and Gerry recorded in this video and covers a comment made earlier in this thread.
When Gerry says they thought of not going to the Tapas on the Thursday he doesn't say whether that was just the couple or the whole tapas 9.  https://youtu.be/qFL6Jown0LE  "McCanns..crying story or crying wolf? (pt2)"( The editing is not important but the actual interview portions are classic.)
Listening to it again Kate pipes in saying "they were all going to go to the Millennium" https://youtu.be/qFL6Jown0LE?t=173 so it sounds like a group decision.

Gerry  says that they nearly thought of not going, which means they didn't think about not going at all.   8(0(*

Gerry might be mixing up Monday, when Rachael said they had trouble getting in, and Thursday, which Jane talks about. I don't think the whole group were there though;

I can remember on the morning of the, Thursday morning by the tennis, at the tennis, somebody in our tennis group had tried to book the Tapas and they couldn’t get in because it was already full.  And I can remember thinking at that point, and I just felt, you know, ‘Good’, because they were bloomin’ awkward by booking it out.  And they were sort of saying well it’s a bit ridiculous that they couldn’t have got in because they’d booked, they’d tried to book in, you know, they’d been there at nine o’clock to book in and they still couldn’t get in.  So, we did, at that point, I can remember having this conversation was ‘Oh shall we go somewhere different’, but it never happened, but.  And Kate was, I think Kate was there then, I can’t remember who else, but we did actually say ‘Oh shall we, shall we go somewhere different’.  And I think almost at that point we had considered it, but I think the problem was the kids were so tired after having such full days, I think it was more ‘Well it’s worked every other night’.  But I know definitely from my point of view I felt quite bad that we were taking this, you know, this block booking every night and it was affecting other people using it”.

It was not a back garden Sadie.

It was a restaurant and bar, for people in the complex and presumably others as well.

No more, no less.

They could not see their children, unless they went to check on them.

There are no excuses.
I could not see my children either, but I could hear them if they shouted or cried hard.

A mother is especially tuned into the cries of her own children

That's a good point, they could have had a sitter check on all the apartments, its not as if they needed three sitters.  For GP's they exhibited a worrying lack of common sense IMO.
Have you thought that thru' Angelo?

I suspect not.

A restaurant enclosed behind a high wall, no less, with one entrance/exit.

A restaurant which can be clearly seen across that wall from 5A thanks to the hillside and the elevated level of 5A (up steps).  Conversely, the restaurant also has good views of the patio area and patio windows that had to be opened.

You are wrong about the restaurant having only one entrance; it has two.  One at either end of it.

One should chose their baby sitters very carefully.

Once your child has been sexually abused, it is too late.

You cannot undo the damage.

All the more reason the children should not have been left alone.

Comparing the situation at Ocean Club to dining out in one's own back garden is just a tad naive.

I'm with Fay Weldon on this one...better sexual abuse than murder.

Sadie, I'd discuss this with you further, but I'm off to bed.

A child left on its own cannot be abused without third party involvement.

I like Jane; she is a nice person.
But equally I can understand the problems of having to drag desperately tired children up to the Millenium restaurant for a meal that is too late for them.  I can also understand the very real need for the group to be near their children if they decided to eat at the Millenium without the little ones

They were in a Catch 22 situation and I can understand their pushing for the places at the Tapas restaurant.

They must have been bored to death with the Tapas menu which didn't change at all according to someone on here, but they still decided that the correct thing was to stay near the sleeping children.

Sorry John, but the likelyhood of someone breaking in and abusing your child cannot be so great as the likelyhood of being abused by a stranger who is baby sitting.

To remind you sexual abuse covers a number of scenarios.  I wont go into the details on here, but a simple one below:

Even certain child/baby nude photos when added to by an expert photoshopper, with additional ermm ... "porn stuff/ people" can be sent around the world in a matter of minutes.

Your child has been abused, someone has made a lot of money ... and that abuse will never go away.  You may never know, altho you might, if some perv in your neighbourhood sees the photoshopped photos and recognises your child.

Of course there are several other ways that your child may have been abused, but here is not the place

There are a lot of similarities John, if one has a big garden and enjoys entertaining.

Sadie, I'd discuss this with you further, but I'm off to bed.

Madeleine is still alive, puglove ... or was in 2012.  Of that i am pretty sure

And a child that has been cared for, as i believe Madeleine has, is unlikely to have been murdered.  A bond develops between the keeper and the child

It is my belief that the instant that Madeleines eye defect and the interest of the World centred on her, she became a "hot potato".  Her photoghraphs were every where.   She became so hot that it was ensured that nothing untoward happened to her ... and they kept her hidden for a very long time.  They never intended to murder her, but they had a purpose for her.

If she were eventually discovered, some convincing tale was already in place to present the person who had her as a kindly soul who was looking after a poor lost child

Only my opinion, but based upon a multitude of pointers that none of you have seen.
My investigations, and YES they were very long and very deep investigations, took a path that no-one else thought of.

I always know that I could be wrong, but with so many pointers and police interest, I rather think I might be right.  I hope so.

Good night John.  I am off to bed now.
