Being sorry for Madeleine and wondering what befell her is about the only thing that both groups have in common.  Beyond that sympathy is evenly split between the parents and Gonçalo.

If it is the case that there is shared sorrow and empathy for Madeleine McCann, why are there disparate groups who campaign under the umbrella of doing all they can in any way possible initially to try to prevent her case being reviewed by Scotland Yard?
Why are the same groups of people trying to derail the active investigation into her disappearance using tactics such as writing to their MPs about costs etc?
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

He was going to appeal he said so,  that was before the money was raised.

Because money had been raised via the PJGA appeal perhaps?

Because most people including SY have reached the terrible reality that she is most probably deceased.
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

The McCanns always seem furious.

If, in addition to the trauma of losing your daughter, you had to put up with hordes of people constantly snapping at your heels about this and that, I imagine you would be, too ....

The McCanns always seem furious.

Only in newspaper-speak.

A headline of  'Furious Gerry' is far more likely to sell newspapers than 'Slightly Annoyed Gerry'

I would have thought that was obvious.

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

How about one with 'Gerry's shortcomings' ?

It probably pays not to take too much notice of what The Star says:
"Ex-police chief Goncalo Amaral, 56, has been flooded with nearly £50,000 in public donations since he lost a libel hearing against Kate and Gerry McCann six months ago".
"The GoFundMe webpage donors include trolls who have abused the McCanns online".
"Internet trolls are backing a court libel case against the McCanns"
“It seems strange indeed these people may be indirectly able to influence civil court proceedings. Kate and Gerry are exasperated.”

As the star has called this a libel trial you need to remark your answers
