Kate knew immediately she'd been taken. Was she expecting the abductor to come back with her?
I don't think the book was of any importance at that moment...none at all...but to you it is...it is purely subjective

I'm very sympathetic towards the mccanns an in my experience there are many others who feel the same

Who are these 'many' ?

Other than the mccanns themselves, their friends and associates.

Do you really think only friends and associates support the mccanns...you've missed the family for starters...I am none of those groups

once again, this snide lack of empathy.  She may have instinctively felt that Madeleine had been taken but that does not mean that she gave up  all hope of ever seeing her again that night.

and that is based on the assumption she told the truth.

Even although Kate was convinced Madeleine had been taken - she would still be desperately hoping that she would be found.   What mother wouldn't?

It's not unknown for abducted children to later be found dumped at the roadside etc by the perpetrator.

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

Kate 'knew immediately'. That's a bit more definite than an 'instinctive feeling'. Most mothers with the slightest hope that her child had wandered would have to be held back from searching the resort from end to end, calling for her daughter until her voice gave out. Obviously I don't expect any supporters to agree with me. In their world she did the best thing by phoning lots of people to tell them of the 'abduction'; fait accompli.

For Information.

I see that both threads asking for evidence of tweets have now been deleted from this board...

this is the question I posed on one of them:

The tone of the comments on the thread about atrocious tweets to OFM seems to be that these because no supporter here can provide screenshots of them that they never existed in the first place.  Can we therefore apply the same logic to the claim of massive abuse towards Kerry Needham that no one can supply evidence of, and if not why not?

Both new threads askng for examples of abuse against the McCanns and the Needhams have been removed since to repeat such abuse would be a violation of the forum rules.  Any suggestions as to how we can get around this are welcome.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

Then why approve the threads in the first place ? The titles made it abundantly clear that repeating the alleged abuse would be necessary to take the discussion forward.

They knew that many other people were already searching the resort.   IMO Kate was in such a state of terror and stress at that time - I doubt if she was capable of calm rational thought.   Her thoughts would be all over the place.

As I'm sure the Manager (can't recall his name at the mo) would have pointed out  - the police had been called and so they needed to be there to speak to them when they arrived - not out searching.   Once they did arrive their time would be taken up speaking to them.

If I found myself plunged into every parent's worst nightmare - I would desperately want to speak to my family - even if they were only round the corner - and not hundreds of miles away.   I see nothing unnatural in that.    I would also be praying to God for help - which IMO  is something else normal people often do when they find themselves in a terrifying situation - even if they are not remotely religious.

IMO the idea that the McCanns should be thinking clearly and methodically at such a traumatic time is totally unrealistic.

Is it the suggestion that Madeleine's grandparents and immediate family should have heard about her disappearance from the morning news broadcasts?  Ridiculous!

Apart from anything else the first people you run to when in great distress are your family, particularly your mother.

I find the criticism of their reactions in the aftermath of one of the most shattering events possible one of the more distasteful aspects of the holier than thou who have chosen to make an internet career out of attacking the family of a missing child.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

A difficult topic, to know what is and is not on topic.

Can we however, please try to adhere to the topic of discussion, when possible and refrain from posting personal comments, which can only disrupt the subject of discussion.

Whilst I am not interested in the tweets per se, does a mechanism exist for looking at what has been tweeted historically?  If so, that would provide the evidence as to what was going on in the relevant period, without the need to repeat abusive material here.

I believe greptweet performs that function SiL.
