I have seen nothing to uphold that statement.
Then with the greatest of respect it must be because you have buried you head firmly in the sand.

The PJ's biggest mistake was not failing to test the twins for sedation nor was it failing to examine a van in Switzerland. It was failing to thoroughly investigate Madeleine's famliy and their friends and eliminate them from the investigation.
Might that not also have included investigating whether or not the McCanns and their friends had been sedating their kids throughout their holiday in PdL?

If you can produce a quote from Operation Grange to the effect that they have investigated and eliminated the McCanns and their friends i will be happy to concede the point.

Andy Redwood said before he retired that neither the McCanns nor their friends are suspects.

If anything has come to light since to change that picture, it is not in the public domain.

Madeleine: Top policeman inisists McCanns are 'victims not suspects'

Chief Inspector Olegario Sousa confirmed today that Gerry and Kate McCann are not under suspicion for their daughter's vanishing on 3 May and described them as "victims".
"The McCanns are not suspects. They are victims and witnesses," he said.
"I don't know where the newspaper got this information from but it is not true."
Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

Possibly wouldn't be as the PJ are the lead authority and The Met are assisting.

you know perfectly well no such quote exists, but actions speak louder than words, and every action taken by Op Grange indicates loud and clear that the McCanns and their friends have been firmly eliminated from their enquiries.  that you stubbornly choose to disregard the overwhelming evidence that this is the case is your problem, and will I fear, lead to certain disappointment on your part eventually.

You can do what you like.  Serious question though: do you honestly believe that one day you're going to turn on the radio and hear that the McCanns have just been arrested for hiding Madeleine's body?

I'll bet Francis Auld and those who believed in his innocence thought he was home and dry too.

So you do believe that ine day you're going to turn on the radio and hear that thr McCanns have been arrested.  Wow.  Given that you also believe Madeleine's body is buried under ten years worth of PdL refuse, and given that despite all the pressure you believe the Met deliberately placed on the McCanns by shifting emphasis on to Smithman some years ago neither look anywhere near cracking, what sort of evidence of criminality do you believe the PJ / Met have been able to gather so far?

ETA your example wasn't a very good one seeing as how the individual in question had already been charged and tried for the crime of murder, presumably on the basis of a considerable weight of evidence and whose case is being retried on the basis I presume in advances in DNA, unlike the McCanns who were never even charged.

The McCanns weren't charged because the evidence wasn't strong enough to secure a conviction.
Francis Auld was acquitted because the evidence wasn't strong enough to secure a conviction.

Same meat, different gravy.

Who knows what evidence has been uncovered in the meantime regarding both cases.
