They had no choice. There's no evidence Madeleine was abducted. Other than the Smiths sighting.

There is no evidence that Madeleine is dead.

I can't believe we're still having this conversation after all these years.  It's nuts but also still quite fascinating that some people can put all their faith into the Smith sighting as being the unquestionable Gospel of Truth whilst at the same time admitting that witness statements (especially those given in such circumstances) can be unreliable.

There is plenty of evidence Madeleine is dead. She hasn't touched her bank account or contacted her family in 20 years. That is evidence she is dead.

The thing is, the only evidence Madeleine was taken by a stranger is the McCanns claiming that she was, & the Smith sighting. There is no evidence of gangs of predatory paedophiles dragging Maddie out of the window & bundling her into a waiting getaway car. No. All there is, is the sighting of Gerry.

Except there was sighting wasn?t of Gerry, because at the time it happened Gerry was elsewhere.

No, he was out searching alone. It's unfortunate that at that approximate time, while Gerry was out somewhere searching alone. The Smith family happened to witness a coincidental Gerrylike trousers man who was rather shy &  carrying his deeply sleeping long sleeved Maddielike blonde haired child off into the night never to be seen again. It's been the sticking point of the case ever since. It always was the most likely sighting of Maddie having been witnessed by a family of 4 & the timing, description & proximity to the apartment only it doesn't fit the McCanns abduction evidence at all & points to something else altogether.

No, according to the Tapas group the alarm was raised at 10pm so Gerry wouldn?t have had time to go to the apartment, see what all the fuss was about, walk to the wasteland, hop over the chain link fence, bundle himself and the the body back over the fence and then make it to the site of thr Smith sighting which according to the Smiths themselves happened around 10pm.

Yes, it is quite remarkable that the tapas group looked at their watches & made note of the precise moment that Kate came screaming.

Any competent investigator wouldn't notice the time discrepancy & coincidental details of the Gerrylike man seen by a family while Gerry was out searching alone.

How did they all agree on the time of 10pm Spam?  Did someone make them?  If so why didn?t he make them say 10.03pm precisely?  Do you think they all connived to provide Gerry with an alibi?

Gerry wasn?t out searching alone until after the time of the Smiths? sighting so it couldn?t have been him.

No there isn't. Try taking that to Court. The Law would laugh at you and quite likely Section you, which wouldn't be a bad idea.

When Kate started hollering that Madeleine had been taken there is no way that either she or Gerry would have been able to control events thereafter.  They would have no way of knowing how their friends would react, what they would do, which direction they would run to search, who would go to fetch the police or staff members, they would have no way of knowing if there was a police patrol in the streets nearby, or whether CCTV covered any of the areas in town between the Ocean Club and the sea front, or who was out and about that evening strolling to and from a pub or restaurant, they would have had no way of knowing that their faces would be plastered across the world's press the very next day so that anyone who had seen them up to no good would have immediately identified them, they would have not been able to control any of that.

So to suggest that the most logical course of action in order to dispose of a dead body in a tourist town is to relinquish ALL control of the situation by waiting until AFTER raising the alarm and drawing attention to yourselves BEFORE hiding the body, and then PARADING that body through the very heart of that tourist town is completely and utterly absurd.  But some people seem to think this is what actually occurred that a) the McCanns were really really stupid and b) the McCanns were really really lucky to have gotten away with the dumbest cover up plan ever concocted.

We know that Gerry was at the table of the Tapas Bar when Kate alerted them that Madeleine was missing.  We know that Gerry ran back to 5a to search the apartment and surrounding area. To say that he went off on his own recovered the body of Madeleine where he is supposed to have hidden her and carried her down to the beach area, to do what?  There were a lot of people out searching at the time so no one would notice Gerry was missing?  Where did he put Madeleine?  So ridiculous.

Yes, and if they weren?t all in it, why did none of the Tapas 7 report their suspicions that Gerry vanished the minute Madeleine was reported missing and turned up 10 or so minutes later, especially later after the Smith sighting was reported?  We know that not all of the Tapas group were close pals of the McCanns, and we know that even if all on holiday together it doesn?t stop so-called friends reporting their suspicions (yes, I do mean Dr Gaspar).  The Tapas group have had years to think about it, and yet not one single suspicion between the lot of them, that can only mean one thing - THEY?RE ALL INVOLVED IN A COVERUP!!!!
