That would be the logical thing to do. If further formalities are required there has been plenty of time to accomplish getting the necessary paperwork in order.

Strange the alleged reason for Portuguese refusal is that there is no "new evidence".  If as alleged Scotland Yard wish to question these people further, it is in everyone's interest to get it done and dusted.

Not quite in everyone's interest though.  I'm sure whoever is responsible for the crime against against Madeleine is content that Scotland Yard's investigation has been allegedly blocked.

The article is made up of unconfirmed rumours and speculations, SY declined to comment, but members have chosen to believe one 'fact' which allows them to criticise the Portuguese authorities. Par for the course it seems.

Even if the allegation is based on fact, it is the prerogative of the country receiving such requests to assess, question and refuse them if they see fit. Amaral tells us in his book that the UK didn't give the PJ information they requested. One refused request concerned financial information;

"Pinging" requires the phone to have GPS aware capability and to be powered up. On that basis the Sun know it does ?!. "Pinging" is also a real time activity that has to be carried out by the network provider.
If what SiL says is right the best will be knowing which 120 degree sector the phone is in.
I would take the Sun's assertions with a pinch of salt.

In my opinion if this case were solved by investigations undertaken by the Met and if the outcome was that it was a PT national who committed the crime of abduction / sexual assault / child trafficking / murder (a combination of one of more of these) then that would be deeply embarrassing for the PT authorities in more ways than one.  It is not in the PT authorities' interests to get this case solved any time soon, IMO.
