... and where exactly does Madeleine McCann figure in this hierarchy of alleged "dislike"?

Madeleine McCann was left in a dangerous situation for five evenings by those responsible for her safety. Following her disappearance those same people embarked on hours of telephone calls suggesting that someone had broken into their apartment and stolen her. At the same time it was asserted that the Portuguese authorities were doing nothing about it.

Madeleine deserved more from those who failed in their duty of care towards her and then tried to excuse/deny it.

i think the one thing the McCanns didn't forsee was an abduction

No-one could have foreseen such an occurrence for the simple reason it was unprecedented; nor were they aware of an assailant whose MO was to enter residences for the purpose of petty theft and to assault children; nor had there been any publicity given to burglars targeting apartments, occurrences denied as late as 2013 (Paul Luckman and Eamonn Holmes).

Burglaries quite often escalate into something unintended ... it was a relevant line of inquiry ... the files show it was not a priority of the investigation, in fact such intelligence was noted in one instance only as a scribble on a page ... who knows what could have been learned if that scribble had been followed through.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

I expect Mark Warner had to face the undeniable truth that listening services don't safeguard children from danger. If you think holiday companies offer them because they're safe and not as a good marketing ploy you're very naive. Intelligent caring parents make their own minds up about the care of their children and leaving them in an unlocked apartment in another country isn't something most parents would dream of doing these days. Even stupid parents are capable of working out that children can wake, cry, wander, climb, fight, choke, play with knives, etc. Were the McCanns really so stupid that none of those possibilities occured to them?

More repeats of the unfounded allegations;

"British police have revealed
Madeleine may have been snatched during a break-in at the apartment where she was sleeping".

What did they say then?

Scotland Yard said: “It’s not something we would discuss.”

Pathetic!

The Listening Service would not exist if there was no demand for it from parents.    Whether you like it or not hundreds of thousands of people (if not millions over the decades) have chosen the same childcare method  every night -  as the McCanns and their friends did on holiday.

And that doesn't include the parents who leave their children asleep in caravans and tents and go off to the site club in the evening  - and nip back to make checks, or people who leave them there and go off to barbeque's/bonfires often held on site by other holidaymakers     Neither does it include people who have parties at home and invite the neighbours - who similarly do the same and keep popping home to check on the kids.

The idea constantly peddled by some sceptics that every other parent on the planet is perfect when it comes to chldcare on holiday -  and it's only the McCanns who have ever done this is ludicrous  imo.

The very fact that there is a Missing Child Procedure in existence in the first place at the OG - is because parents are not perfect people and children do go missing on holiday.    I don't see anyone criticising those parents or even acknowledging their existence for that matter.

(must go out now).

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

You can type abduction or burglary to your heart's content.

There is no evidence for either, and you know that.

If The McCanns had known about the spate of burglaries it might have helped.  Changed their attitude even.  But they didn't know, which is why they thought it was safe.
Can't some of you see this?

Nope. Leaving children is bad enough but leaving it unlocked doesn't wash. It was unlocked after Gerry's check because Matt entered that way.

"At about 21.05 the witness came to the Club, entered the room using his respective key, the door being locked." GM 4 May

Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

You are in a foreign country, whose language and customs you don not know.

You lock the apartment during daytime, but not in the second version of events , at night.

The children are left for several hours with irregular checks and pray to a variety of possible dangers whilst the parents are distracted.

The burglary ploy is an excuse.

It doesn't wash now, and it didn't wash then.

You have to question why it was unlocked before Matt entered (supposed to be Kate) which should give you a clue to when and how she disappeared. That would make it 13 hours since she disappeared as another statement claimed someone said.

Mark Warner and the Ocean Club were negligent in my view in not warning guests that this was going on.  I also think the resort owners should have had visible security around the blocks.  Even the nannies complained that strangers had too much access to the gardens and pool area. As it was any old Tom, Dick or Harry could wander in day or night.

i always wondered  why the  mcanns  allowed matt etc and  the others in alone  to  check their  kids   why didnt they do  all  the checking on their kids by themselves??
