It could also be seen as a trap, being at the end. Wasn't it open and light where the alleged burglary of 5L took place?

no trap for a fit guy.  Two methods of exit apart from thru' the apartment using a key:

1)  Over the pathway wall and scarper across the car park, into the road. 
Because of the curve in the pathway, and 5A building masking the view, over that wall could be achieved without being spotted from the open hallway .... or from the other end of the Walled pathway.

2)  Over the wall onto the footpath (the footpath that Jane walked up). 
Quite a drop, but it wouldn't have worried me when I was young and then off probably across the road and into the alleyways.

3)  And then, of course, with a key, straight into the apartment, thru to the back and down the steps out and away .... or even across the little garden, over the wall into the alleyway and away

All of that doesn'the add up to anything as they is no evidence of any third party in the apartment.

Other than the digs, there is no evidence that OG has visited Luz or block 5, and no rumour thereof.  This, of course, does not prove the OG has had a crack at 5A, but if they did it has been kept under wraps at both ends.

There was nothing to prevent the inquiry booking it for a week or even a couple of days and billeting a couple of officers there.  Had I been the Senior officer in charge, I would have given it some thought.

Also easy peasy for a fit pursuer to give chase shouting 'Stop thief!'. 

The curve in the wall works both ways as it would hide anyone approaching in quiet shoes like trainers.

Yep, easy peasy if the person coming actually saw the intruder.  First of all the door recess and area was very very dark and secondly it was beyond the priferal vision of anyone crossing the parking lot.  No-one would see any intruder there unless the intruder came out into the light and jumped around shouting.

And of course if "sadies theory" is Correct, then there was an accomplis on the balcony immediately across the road, ready to signal to the intruder if anyone appeared. 

Not too many even fit people would want to jump from that wall down.  I was unusual because I was always the first to jump from heights.  I was the youngest and female, also light weight.  The blokes lost face if they didn't follow me.

If as you think the noise of the shutters caused Madeleine to flee ... what do you think happened to her thereafter?

The shutters had not been jemmied ... nor had they been damaged.  But there is a witness statement that they had been opened, I am sure you will agree.

So the burgulahs get in and are disturbed by MM so they leg it with her. ( I may have done this before).
So the options are:
1 Killed her.
2 Sold her on.
3 Remain toting her around.
