But if one burglar had already entered via balcony door, what would be the point of second burglar opening the window from outside Misty?

Have you found any evidence on the outside window or did it whoosh open by itself?
Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

If when a burglar opened the shutter the child hid herself in the parents' bedroom, a possible place would be inside one of its two wardrobes

A burglar from outside can give the window a tiny nudge and it will glide open effortlessly, see video demonstration by Alexandre Simas.

Can you remnd me how we know the window was not locked to? In all the groundhog day discussions one cant always keep up with everything...sy needed 12m quid, we only have our memories lol

Ps in theory, i dint see why you need an opened window, raising of the shutter would have made the noise enough to wake a child up, a window is a soft swish, oh hang on, or course becaue KM said it was

(snip) ..the status of the window lock is supposition.
Before they went out, neither GM nor KM locked that window.
Same in 5H, before they went out those tourists didn't lock their windows either - and some of them were definitely not locked.

it looks like you are wrong...and also wrong to say I never supply cites...

It might look like it to you but thats about it
You extremely rarely provide cites, and only when pushed FACT...which shows that you pooh pooh the idea of backing up your CLAIMS , most of us have to do it, you should try it, would make you more credible in so doing rather than IM RIGHT YOURE WRONG etc etc lol

Fact remains you tried to portray the PJ as not doing forensics and sending or allowing to be sent important forensic material to the nearest laundry..

Is it therefore assumed that the cleaner failed to lock any of the windows after she had last cleaned them or on changeover day?
The parents apparently didn't open any of the windows during the week so they would not have been aware of the insecurity.
I have read about the ease of access in respect of horizontal sliding windows but am unclear about the pin-operated locking system in 5a's window.

Yes, she said the window was open, and because that is completely possible, I believe her statement - the window was open.

They may not have locked it but is it a fact it wasnt locked to begin with? After all they never bothered with the windows and shutters at all all week in that room did they?

night night it seems the abductor theory is running into all sorts of problems lately...there s no handle on it pun unintended

Psychologically, as proven by statements in the files, many people incorrectly assume that if the shutter is down, it can't be raised from outside, and there is no need to lock the window.
Doctors and other professionals made this assumption, therefore cleaners would also.

Who, if not the cleaners, is responsible for ensuring the apartments are left secure after they carry out their duties?

If you're right Merc, maybe you should write to the owner of 5A, and tell them to remove the strong metal security bars that since May 2007 have been bolted over the exterior of this window and shutter.

The cleaner of 5A looks completely honest IMO.

The side gate was padlocked too, possibly all because of incidents like these;

On 20 September, two men and a women, claiming to be from "Sky News", attempted to force open the external blinds of the front bedroom of apartment 5A and were asked to leave the area; on 25 September a three Spanish persons - again two men and a woman - were found with cameras on the patio balcony of apartment 5B. Having no identification, but being in possession of film equipment, they were believed to be journalists.
