By October 2015 it seems SY were aware of 28 cases of illegal access to properties in the vicinity around 2007.
Poor record keeping by the GNR combined with low-priority crime probably didn't help.

It was only going to be a matter of time before something more serious than petty theft occurred given the volume of burglaries in the area.

That something I think escalated and is connected to Madeleine McCann's disappearance.

What I find extraordinary about it is the total disregard which appears to have been prevalent about this situation as far as the PJ were concerned.  Had the relevant information not been passed up the chain and they did not know?  Or were they aware of the situation and chose to disregard it?

The serious assaults on children while their parents slept which should have had alarm bells ringing off the wall immediately Madeleine disappeared were also inexplicably ignored.

I would love to know why.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

I guess the lack of a decent computer system may be the answer, along with 3 different police agencies dealing with specific types of crime.
The Portuguese had no DNA database at the time  iirc & no Sex Offenders Register.
Thinking back to how easily Ian Huntley managed to elude detection on what was supposed to be UK state of the art CRB system, I can quite understand why the PJ had limited knowledge of localise petty crime & crimes against holidaymakers who were unlikely to pursue matters.

If a stranger did open the child's shutter and window Brietta, (and remember that is what KM's statement indicates), do you not credit the child with the basic intelligence to run away from the window and into another room?

Sorry, one of the worst articles I have read.

Summers claims 28 cases according to unnamed source?

PS Where did you get your GNR comments from?
What's up, old man?

You can either believe the unnamed source or not, just as people can believe or disbelieve the comments allegedly made by "a friend of the family" in response to SO's outburst. I've merely posted the media article.
GNR records - they really didn't have a record of Mrs Fenn's break-in?? There is a report somewhere about records being found in the back of a cupboard but I won't post it as it's also probably just rubbish too.

The holidaymakers would only disturb the police to get a crime number for the insurance companies and would have had little opportunity to make much of a fuss anyway as a traditional time for them to be targeted was just before their departure date.

I'm not sure if any thought was given by the PJ to the possibility of Madeleine's case resulting from a botched burglary.  As we know, her parents fell under suspicion immediately according to Mr Amaral.  We don't know how the different forces rubbed along as far as an exchange of information is concerned ... but we do know that the PJ were in possession of DNA from one of the home invasions in which a child had been assaulted.
So there must have been an element of involvement there because of the serious nature of the offence. The British ambassador also knew about the assaults ... therefore the PJ must have known about them.

I don't think it happened like that, Pegasus.  I don't think it was a botched burglary, nor do I think it was 'smelly man' either.

I think the window and shutter were opened from the inside and I don't think Madeleine ran anywhere.

The link is very interesting.

I have heard gossip recently that Mrs Fenn did not report her intruder immediately because there was a fee for a police report.

The fee in the gossip was €15.  And if nothing was actually stolen, she didn't need a police report.  Hmmm.

Might say something about petty crime in Luz, and equally it might not.

I think it's gossip Shining. I went to the GNR to report a stolen iPad. They made up a report  and gave me some official papers to take home.
All free of charge, I was offered a coffee during my visit at the police station.
The cops young and old all spoke English, the older ones a bit hesitantly but not a flaw in their understanding.

Some months later I received a letter stating my case had been archived.

No fee at all.

The PJ had DNA? Cite? The British Consul knew about the assaults, but didn't he hear at a meeting of Tour Operators? I know one woman reported an incident the GNR, so no evidence the PJ knew as far as I know.

That argument does not withstand logical extension.

When you look at all the old blx that has circulated around this case since almost the beginning is it any wonder at the manhours and expenses bill for O.G chasing down a load of old blx. I wonder what the final throw of the O.G die will reveal ?
