Without wishing to sound ageist, he was what, 83 at the time of the meeting? I doubt he flew to Faro, rented a car, then drove himself to Luz.
Car insurance in Portugal is odd. It is the car that is insured, not the driver. If the villa owner had a car there, and consented to Freud using it, then assuming Freud was legal to drive in the UK he was legal to use the villa car in Portugal.
But why would he? Baptista delivered to his door. Chicken and mushroom risotto is hardly pushing the envelope.
My hubbie is 81 in a few days time. Last month we were in Toronto and my hubby was driving around in a wretched giant American limousine on the roads around Toronto. These are not quiet PdL / western Algarve roads, they are city roads. He had driven the same car in Fla only 15 months before, which helped. The Panhandle was much quieter than Toronto. He didn't fancy doing it, but needs must .... and he drove
Another member of the family until the age of about 83 used to drive down to Richmond, Virginia. .... all the way from London Ontario. I would guess that is over 500 miles. She is now 86 and drives occasionally from London Ont to Toronto, about 100miles.
I don't think that we can be certain that Freud, an international man, would not be able to manage driving the easy route from Faro airport to PdL. He might even have flown it by light aircraft to the little air strip in nearby Lagos. Celebs do these sort of things .... but I know that I am only speculating
