Gerry: "We've been getting three big crates of mail every day. It's so much we have to collect it from the post office. We didn't think it was fair on our post lady.

I'm not the world's greatest mathematician, so feel free to correct me but if the mothers who wrote to Kate did the same as her 'a hundred times' it seems a lot. For a four year old child I make that 25 days each year they left their child home alone in unlocked premises. Wow!

What a lot of excuses he gets into two sentences, still without really answering the question.

He seems to be saying it was similar to having dinner 'in your garden'. Well that's a matter of opinion. 'Your' house and 'your' garden are within the boundary of 'your' property. What they did was more like being in next door's rather large garden seated on the other side of their swimming pool inside a structure.

Then we have 'thousands' of people who've done exactly the same or said they would have. That's exactly the same, not something similar. The same as what? That's not really clear, is it?

The reference to the bedroom seems to be an attempt to suggest that it could have happened even if they'd been in their bedroom 'at that moment', but they weren't, so that can never be tested or be shown to be relevant.
