It never ceases to amaze that when crimes are eventually solved, so many things usually fall into place just like finishing a jigsaw puzzle.

A comment made on another thread got me wondering about events and if they are connected.  The alleged break in at premises in Odiáxere, the open window and shutter at 5a, a missing child, nothing else stolen, Amaral's dead dog and the perceived threat against him, the destroyed information posters, the burning of a Russian's car in Luz and a community in fear of speaking out.

Can anyone else see the links?

The first two are fairly well known as linked for the GNR  couldn't attend Praia du Luz incident(s) till they had completed the investigation in  Odiaxere.  Which gave Smithman more time to get away.
The last "a community in fear of speaking out" was touched on recently in a thread (removed) because their livelihoods depended on a favourable outcome for OC.  Yet on the surface of it OC didn't look responsible for the MM missing situation so why put the pressure on the staff?  Yet OC and Mark Warner had employed the firm Bell Pottinger from the 4th May.  Was that crisis management firm hired to keep the blame pointing towards the McCanns for the next year?  I couldn't see the McCanns paying Bell Pottinger half a million pounds to get that sort of treatment.

Amaral's dead dog with head-wounds is patently fiction.

Malinka's burnt-out car with speak scrawled in Portuguese on the pavement?  Some vigilante yob(s) who believed he/they had solved the crime.

Community 'in fear of speaking out'?

No clue where that comes from, unless it is a reference to the Portuguese secrecy laws?

Though there was no shortage of output from Portugal in the wake of Madeleine's disappearance, most of it highly unreliable. 

Open shutters?  Possibly a clue of the mechanism by which Madeleine was abducted.  Not sure.

Not really.  If they are actual events, to ask if there is a linkage is a valid question.  The answers could be speculative but from there one could look for supportive evidence.

Thank you Rob, they are all indeed actual recorded elements of the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Each in this own way is relatively insignificant but taken together they could be so much more.  If I were to add the words 'local mafia' would this help?

You are always up for a challenge Rob and much of what you have suggested over the last few months has given many of us food for thought. Think outside the box for the moment, why a reported burglary in a town miles away from Luz, a burglary which was a false alarm?

I have never looked up where that other town was. Sorry, I must do that.  It has certainly been a tactic used by some criminals in NZ at times - create a concurrent diversion.

How did you get details of the burglary at Odiaxere?  Like how did you know that it was a false alarm?

Very much so but I wasn't thinking of the home grown variety.  Not many people know this but there are Russian mafia members in every prison down the Spanish Costas, you could map a route right down to Marbella and beyond into the Algarve.  I have seen some of them in Alicante and in Madrid.  Unlike the Romanian Mafia whose favourite pastime is prostitution, the Russians go in for extortion and kidnap.
