Do you really thnk its possible the Mccanns got on the wrong side of anyone so badly that a ten year scenario has been playing out?

It is no secret that I prefer the woke and wandered theory but there is just as much reason to believe that something more sinister occurred.  There are several reasons why an abducted kid might never be returned.  Something could have happened to her after she was taken which prevented a hand back or she might have been taken to order in which case she was never going to be returned anyway.  What is certain however is that the furore which followed Maddie's disappearance killed the golden goose at least in the Algarve.

If Maddie had been abducted for a ransom the parents would have been told not to contact the police straight away.  That didn't happen as far as I am aware which tends to indicate there was no intention to return her.

Some food for thought. It was commented on earlier today that smugglers have been landing drugs consignments along the mostly unguarded Portuguese Atlantic coast for years. If they can bring kit in so easily what was to stop them taking cargo out again?

It never ceases to amaze that when crimes are eventually solved, so many things usually fall into place just like finishing a jigsaw puzzle.

A comment made on another thread got me wondering about events and if they are connected.  The alleged break in at premises in Odiáxere, the open window and shutter at 5a, a missing child, nothing else stolen, Amaral's dead dog and the perceived threat against him, the destroyed information posters, the burning of a Russian's car in Luz and a community in fear of speaking out.

Can anyone else see the links?

I have to admit I can see links between the events, links which point to an organised crime gang.  The false alarm many miles away from Praia da Luz could very well have been created in order to take the GNR night crew away as far as possible from the scene of a robbery.  Thinking outside the box for a moment, it is possible that what started out as a simple robbery ended up as a child abduction.  Could it be that Madeleine awoke to find the window open and recognised the intruder?

I don't think they would have gone to all the bother of distracting the cops for a tourist robbery that might at best have secured a camera, passport or loose change.

A high value item about which a furore was going to be raised immediately it was discovered missing would have necessitated a quick, clean, unobstructed getaway ... would certainly have been worth the precaution of making sure the GNR were otherwise engaged while it was going on and while the culprits were getting clear.

I think Madeleine was the target.

You'd be amazed at the lengths some people will go to to make an insurance claim - especially if their income has been adversely affected. Just a theory, though.
Amaral must have been threatened many times during his time in the drug squad. The McCann case wasn't the only one he was working on at the time.
The burglary - how did the caller know the McCanns were going to call phone 112 20 minutes later? What if their call had been made at 2210 hrs? How did the caller know there was only one GNR patrol that night?
